"My name is Kang Haerin, by the way. Wanna date me?" I said, flashing a confident smile as I looked at Jeon Y/n. The atmosphere around us seemed to pause for a moment, and others couldn't help but choke on their water or gasp for air.

In the split second between my question and their response, I couldn't help but anticipate positive affirmations. As the hopeful thought crossed my mind, I began thinking, "I know they will sai-"

"No," Y/n casually interrupted, their attention swiftly returning to their food. It was as if the proposal was a minor interruption to their meal, and an unusual hush settled over our surroundings. The weight of the rejection left me utterly speechless, especially since it was the first time someone had turned me down.

As I processed the unexpected turn of events, I pondered, "Did they delude themselves or something? A girl as pretty as me asks them out, and the answer is a resounding no?" A mix of embarrassment and frustration colored my emotions, visible in my expression.

Wonyoung, noticing my discomfort, tried to offer solace with a reassuring pat on my shoulder. "It's okay, Kang. Rejections happen. Don't worry; you can move on now," she comforted me. However, my eyes involuntarily rolled as I stole another glance at Y/n, who remained unperturbed, calmly focusing on their meal.

Feeling a heavy sigh escape me, I made a silent decision, "I'm not doing this anymore. Dad can handle dating them instead. I can't subject myself to the embarrassment and anger that this has caused." With that, I walked away from the table, my emotions a tangled web of embarrassment and frustration, leaving behind the unexpected sting of rejection.

As I leisurely strolled down the hallway, the rhythmic tapping on my shoulder snapped me out of my thoughts. I turned around to find Jang Wonyoung with a peculiar smile. "What does she want from me now?" I pondered silently. Her voice broke the brief silence, predicting my response, "I know you're gonna say no. So don't say no," leaving me intrigued and awaiting an explanation. The focus of her gaze intensified as she continued, "I'm throwing a party today, so are you in?"

Despite my initial inclination to decline, a "No" on the tip of my tongue, she preemptively cut me off. "I already said you can't say no!" she insisted, a playful pout gracing her features. "And we can be even closer!" she added with a radiant smile. I wondered when I had ever expressed a desire to be closer to her.
