Start from the beginning

   *Three days later... *

Breath, Julia, breath. You can do this. Its just a quick get in get out. On the count of three

   1...2...3

I sprinted to my nearest kill and sliced at its rib cage. Its salty blood trickling through its feathers and falling through the sky. With each drop my thirst grew stronger and stronger and my momentum faster and faster. This bird had another thing coming if it thinks it can escape my clutches. My hind legs contracting and retracting with every movement, my tongue dancing on my lips as my mouth slobbers all over. My claws are gripping at the dirt beneath my feet and my teeth are bared to a menacing snarl. My eyes blazing red and my heart fluttering with excitement.

   This is my first kill.

My first step into a new beginning.

It has been three days, since I have last eaten, and my bones are getting weak. Especially with the new transformation. The first night was a living nightmare. The constant snapping of the bones, the painful twitch of ever muscle as it sprung out of place, and the howl that ran past my lip when I wasn't paying attention. The hard--almost iron--tree vines that I tied around my neck, my feet, my arms, and stomach to keep me mobilized.

My wolf and I have been talking about our plans ever since she woke up from her slumber. Our plans for revenge. She was just as ecstatic as I was when I told her of my plot. Now don't get the wrong idea. We are not just doing this for blood, quite the opposite, really. We want them to start treating each other like equals. To help and care for one another. We don't want them dead... necessarily. I mean whats the fun in that? We just want them so broken that they will beg for death, they will grovel at our feet and know how strong we are. They will know that we are not one to be messed with. They will know how it feels to be on the brink of death. To get rejected. To be beaten. They will know it all! And when they've had enough, I will turn my back and let them collect the broken pieces of their dignity, with whatever is left of it. They shall know how I felt when all of that happened to me. To us. They will know just how much their cruelty corrupted such an innocent mind.

My wolf, fully developed and complete, is hunting for a good snack to eat. Our large body of muscle rushing through the woods like a flash of lightning. Are eyes like a snake, yellow with black slits for the pupils, and are coat is red like fire with streaks of blondish-orange. Are tails tip is a smoky black along with the tips of our ears, almost like a fox. We are the only wolf alive to have such a color. We are no ordinary wolf. My wolf told me this herself but she has yet to tell me exactly what we are.

The duck before me falters and plummets to the ground, it's wings giving out, and it's eyes slowly closing. I wait until it is fully gone before I scoop it up inside my mouth and carry it off to my cave. Trotting or skipping all the way home. I can't help that I'm gleeful. I'm finally learning how to take care of myself for a change. And in the crazy world these days, living in the wild, It's survival of the fittest.

I reach the entrance of my cave and place my meal on the stone ground as I morph back into my human form.

   We did good today, Saraphine.

   'I know we did.'

Do you think it will always give me pleasure to kill?

She laughed, 'You are a wolf, Julia, its in your blood'

I gave her what I thought was a small smile and a nod in my mind.

As I readied the fire, the cracking and warmth it brought soothed me, and I found myself singing a tune as I roasted the meat.

   Hush-a-bye, don't you cry.

Go to sleep my little baby.

When you wake, you shall have.

   All the pretty little ponies...

In your bed mama said "baby's riding off to dream land."

One by one, they begun, dance and prance for little baby.

   Black and bays.

   Dapple's and grey's.

   Running in the night.

When you wake, you shall have...

   All the pretty little ponies.

Can you see the little ponies, dance before your eyes.

All the pretty little ponies will be there when you arise...

   Hush-a-bye, don't you cry.

Go to sleep my little baby.

When you wake you shall have...

   All the pretty little ponies.

   All the pretty little...

   Ponies...

'Where did you learn that song, Julia?' Saraphine commented as I finished singing.

Just something I picked up on the radio.

'An interesting song.' She mused, 'Just remember the plan.'

   Don't worry, I'll never forget.

  'Good.' She whispered.

And as the fire sizzled its last breath and the cave darkened in the night. A tear welled up into my eyes. An unshed tear. A tear in both my eyes. One on the right for my innocence and one on the left for my cruelty. On that night, I cried myself to sleep, one last time.

   "Goodbye." I whimpered to myself.

This was me, letting go, of the old me.

And this was me welcoming the new me.
