After school, Eve and her brother walked to the ice cream shop and they ate on a bench nearby there.

As they sat on a bench near the ice cream shop, Asher took a deep breath and looked at Eve with a serious expression on his face. "Eve," he said, his voice softening. "I need to tell you something that I just found out."

Eve looked at him curiously, wondering what he could possibly have to say. Asher took another deep breath, then continued.

"Our mom didn't just leave because she couldn't handle being a mother," he said, his voice trembling slightly. "She left because our father used to be drunk and abusive. And the reason she left you behind was because she had to hide me from him."

Eve's eyes widened in shock as she listened to Asher's words. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Asher took another deep breath, then continued. "Our mother had another child, a boy named Asher.. yeah..it's me, who was a year different from you," he said, his voice full of emotion. "But she had to hide him from our father because she was afraid for his safety. And when she left, she couldn't take you with her because she was afraid he would come after you too."

Eve stared at him in disbelief, trying to process everything he was saying. "So all this time, you were my younger sibling?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Asher nodded slowly, tears welling up in his eyes. "Yes, Eve," he said, his voice full of emotion. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you before. But I wanted you to know the truth."

Eve sat there in silence for a long moment, trying to process everything she had just learned. As she finished her ice cream, she couldn't help but feel shocked by the revelation. She had always known that her mother had left when she was young, but hearing the full story was a shock to her system.

On one hand, she was grateful to finally know the truth about her family history. On the other hand, she felt a deep sadness for all that her mother had gone through and the sacrifices she had made to protect her children.

"I can't believe it," Eve said, her voice barely above a whisper. "All this time, I had no idea."

Asher put his arm around her, trying to comfort her as she processed everything. "I'm sorry, Eve," he said, his voice full of regret. "I wish I could have told you sooner."

Eve looked up at him, tears streaming down her face. "It's okay, Asher," she said, her voice full of emotion. "I'm just glad I know the truth now."

They sat there in silence for a few more moments, both lost in their own thoughts. Finally, Eve stood up and wiped away her tears.

"Let's go home," she said, her voice determined. "I want to talk to mom and find out more about our family history."

Asher nodded, a small smile on his face. "I think that's a great idea," he said, his voice full of hope. "We can finally start to put the pieces together."

They both went home and called their mother, it turned out there was no one at home. Suddenly, Eve's heart raced as she saw her mother's body convulsing on the floor.

"Oh my god!!! Asher, we need to call an ambulance!" she exclaimed, her voice full of panic.

Asher quickly grabbed his phone and searched for the ambulance number. He dialed the number and tried to explain the situation as calmly as he could.

"Hello, we need an ambulance at our house right away," he said, his voice shaking slightly. "Our mother is having a seizure and we don't know what to do."

The operator on the other end of the line instructed Asher to stay on the line and gave him further instructions on how to help their mother until the ambulance arrived.

Eve knelt down beside her mother, tears streaming down her face. "Mom, can you hear me?" she asked, her voice full of fear. "Please be okay."

As they waited for the ambulance to arrive, they tried to keep their mother calm and comfortable. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they heard the sound of sirens in the distance.

The ambulance arrived and the paramedics quickly went to work, assessing their mother's condition and administering treatment. Asher and Eve watched anxiously as they worked, hoping and praying that their mother would be okay.

Finally, after what felt like hours, the paramedics were able to stabilize their mother's condition and transport her to the hospital. Asher and Eve followed closely behind, their hearts heavy with worry.

As they sat in the waiting room, waiting for news on their mother's condition.

A few minutes later, John came running and looked worried as he approached them.

"How is she?" he asked, his voice full of concern.

Asher and Eve looked up at him, their eyes red from crying. "She's still in critical condition," Eve said, her voice barely above a whisper. "The doctor says she has a serious illness."

John nodded, his face grave. "I'm so sorry," he said, his voice full of regret. "I wish there was something I could do to help."

Asher looked up at him, his eyes filled with anger. "Where were you when all of this was happening?" he asked, his voice full of accusation. "Why weren't you here to help us?"

John looked down at the ground, his face full of shame. "I'm sorry," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I should have been here for you both."

Eve put her hand on Asher's shoulder, trying to calm him down. "It's okay, Asher," she said, her voice full of compassion. "Let's just focus on mom right now."

They sat there in silence for a few more moments, lost in their own thoughts. Finally, the doctor came out of the operating room and approached them.

"I have some good news," he said, his voice full of relief. "Your mother's condition has stabilized and she's out of danger for now."

Asher and Eve let out a sigh of relief, tears streaming down their faces. "Thank god," they said, their voice full of gratitude. "Thank you so much, doctor," John said.
