Niall || Part Five

Start from the beginning

I guess this was what Demi meant by the whole it’s okay as long as I’m with you’ thing.

Now, it was time for the real deal, the picnic date that I prepared oh-so-anxiously on and planed the last minute. I even blindfolded her just for fun. The night view of the city was told to be spectacular too, so I had a feeling she’d enjoy it.

_

“Really, Niall? Blindfolds?” she giggles. “I didn’t know you’d be this cliché.”

“Please, I know how to be romantic, but yeah, me neither. The lads said you were changing me.” I scoffed at the end – only lightly so I was the only to hear it. I could be romantic; I’ve watched a few chick-flicks.

“How?”

“Apparently, I’ve started cursing less ever since I started dating you.” Looking back, even I noticed the major decrease in curses. It was a good thing, I suppose.

She laughs, and as if reading my mind, comments: “Well that’s definitely a good thing!”

I couldn’t help the smile that crept to my lips. Yeah, definitely a good thing.

“Now, when the heck are we going to reach that picnic place of yours?” She stumbled, but I caught her just in time, I had to suppress the urge to laugh at that point.

Fortunately, we were more than close to our destination already. “Right…” I started, taking a few more steps before finally finishing off, “…here!” And in a swift movement, I took off the blindfold and threw it behind me. It’s not like I’d be using it any time soon.

I checked to see her reaction and once again, I made her eyes gleam in awe. I’m definitely doing a pretty good job with this date.

“Pretty cool, huh? It was hard picking out a good private place when I’m not even here. Thankfully we have lots of connections.”

She hugged me – taking me by surprise. “Thanks Niall, you really didn’t have to do all this…” she mumbled into my ear, and a gentle smile formed on my lips.

We stayed like that for a minute or two, until I noticed the sobbing noise coming from Demi.

“Demi, are you okay?” Worried, I could only do so little to comfort her. I didn’t even know why she was crying.

“I’m s-s-sorry, N-niall…I-I’m so…s-sorry,” she sniffles, tightening the hug, confusing me even more. But in situations like this, one of us had to help lighten the mood, and that’s exactly what I was going to do.

“Demi, what are you sorry for?” I said gently in a cheerful manner, caressing her head.

What’s wrong? What happened?

These were questions I wanted to ask, but simply couldn’t – not now, at least.

She took a deep breath, and exhaled, her breath coming off shaky. “Can I…can I ask you something…?”

“Sure.”

“Why do you…like me?”

Well, that was a stupid question, because even I didn’t know. I just loved her and the way she was.

I shrugged innocently, noting how she rolled her eyes amidst the tears. “You can’t just ask someone why they fell in love. Sometimes it’s stupid, sometimes it’d be cute, but other time, you just love the person dearly.” Words just came through my mind, and rolled off my tongue in ease.

“That’s a lot of wisdom for a leprechaun, isn’t it?”

“What, leprechauns can’t give good advice?” I joked.
