Niall || Part Two

As soon as Zayn came back—with drinks even—we had already finished discussing the plans. I was left in the room though, since everyone else was busy with something. I was supposed to be dong something too, but I finished up early.

Still, with Louis’ constant remarks about how picnics may be a little too old-fashioned, I knew I needed to ask that question on the phone.

So, here I was, waiting for Demi to answer, and after two or three rings, she did.

In a heartbeat, all anxiousness was replaced with excitement. Especially since the silver bracelet I bought for Demi was in my hands, in a petite little box.

“Demi! Hey, love, did you see my text?”

“Yeah, I did. Sorry, I kind of fell asleep, after, and couldn’t reply…” she says. I nodded, but she couldn’t see that. At least I get it, the time zones really were different, weren’t they?

“Oh, I see! Well, I was really hoping you’d ask when,” I laughed, finding my plan pretty silly, right now.

“Why’s that?”

“I wanted to tell you about how I was keeping my flight a secret to you.”

I noticed the weird silence, but she replied before I could get too caught up in worry. “Uh, what do you mean?” she asked, and that really didn’t help get me any less worried.

Was something going on that I didn’t know or…?

“I’m not going to tell you when I’m coming there! It’s a surprise,” I said excitedly. If she was in a really bad morning mood, then I’d cheer her up, just like always.

“Aw, come on! Don’t leave me hanging! I need to make sure I’ll look good enough before you come here!”

My smile grew wider as I let her word sink in. She didn’t seem to be that moody. “Don’t worry you’re beautiful just the way you are, love! How many times does a person have to tell you this for you to understand?”

And then there was silence on the other end. I expected maybe a teasing modesty from her, but nothing. Was there really something wrong?

“Hello? Demi, you still there?” I added worriedly.

“Yeah! Sorry I got…hungry.”

I laughed. “That’s good!” I congratulated. “So, tell me, do you prefer sandwiches or subs?” I asked, just to be sure.

“Uhm, subs, I guess? Actually, no, sandwiches are fine. Those really cute and triangle-shaped ones, you know?”

I laughed at how adorable she just sounded. Being in love can be a bad thing for my manly pride, but meh. “Sandwiches it is, then! I’m thinking we should have a really good picnic packed with food!” I announced.

“You don’t have to.”

I slightly froze, remembering Louis’ remarks once again.

“I mean, we could just like, hang out and talk. There’s no need for food, I’m not choosy on dates!” she added, relieving me.

“It’s normal for a boyfriend to want to  do these things for his girlfriend, isn’t it?”

“Yes, but—”

“Then don’t worry. I’m doing this because I want to.”

“I know, and I think that’s really sweet but…”

Again, Louis’ remarks circled my thoughts. “But…? Do you think picnics are out of style? Louis kind of said so, and I don’t want to bore you…” I trailed off, hoping she got what I was saying.
