CHAPTER 30 - Why Is Everything So Complicated

"I'll tell him soon."
"Good because my patience is running a bit low here."

"Yeah right. But Luke, are you guys like doing everything you can to find her?"
"Sage baby, are you doubting our skills?"

"I don't know what skills to even doubt."
"Ouch. Don't worry. We know what we're doing. In fact, Liam and Ian are busy following up on a lead as we speak."

"A Nikolai lead?"
"Indeed."

"Luke. You guys need to be careful. He is a dangerous man."
"Then that must make us fairies then."

"I am serious Luke. He is not a good man. He has done horrible things."
"Mmm. Now I am intrigued. Care to share?"

"I don't have all of my memories, due to my accident but I have these dreams that are based on my past or memories, I think. And in them he is a monster. So just please be careful."
"Aww, you care about us."

"I am serious Luke!"
"We have been following him for months now, Sage. We know exactly who and what he is. I am sorry about your memory though. But I think it's kinda cool."

"Cool? How on earth would that be cool?"
"Well obviously it sucks in some ways but you get to start over. I mean you took on a whole new identity and could basically reinvent yourself."

"Okay, If you look at it that way then I guess it's kinda cool."
"So... what are you wearing?"

"Are you serious?"
"I am joking. When are you coming over again? Seems like you're avoiding us or more Liam I think."

"No. I am not avoiding you. I have just been busy."
"Busy?"

"Yes. I got a job at Rêve."
"Oh dear fuck. Are you serious?"

"What!? I left the call center."
"That is not an appropriate place for you."

"Ag, stop it. There is nothing wrong with it."
"Try tell that to Liam then."

"Okay? And he has a say in my life since when?"
"Since you challenged him."

"Challenged him?"
"And I quote: I will never sleep with him."

"Really! How is that a challenge? I was just telling the truth."
"If only you know my brother as well as I do. And please. The truth? You and I both know that is not the case."

"Whatever. I think I will go now."
"No-No! Don't avoid the ever so obvious truth. But seriously you should resign from Rêve."

"Uhm. I think not."
"Sage. I am not asking."

"And I am not listening. Good night, Luke!"
"Sage!"

I end the call and drop the phone on the bed.

Yeah right. Resign? In your dreams.

I look down at my phone vibrating and see Luke's name appear.

"Ready to apologize?"
"Sage, listen to me. Stop being so stubborn-"

"-Okay bye!"
I cut the call mid-sentence and switch my phone to mute.

Not interested in your stories, Lukie-boy.

I lay on my back and pull the duvet over me.

Hopefully I can get some sleep.

I close my eyes and take a few deep breaths.

The sound of my door about to fly off its hinges sends me flying up and towards it.

"Who is it?" I ask, trying to supress my nervousness.
"Open the Door!"

Liam?

The door rattles with more force.
