I peek around the corner and see Shane sitting on the couch busy spreading something out on the wooden coffee table. Wings spread across his shoulder blades remind me of an angel.

Surely it's no coincidence.

How can one man be so fierce yet gentle, so loving, so passionate. And he is mine?

My thoughts stop as I see him eye me and lean back into the couch. I walk closer, bending down behind him and rest my arms on his shoulders.
"What are you doing?" I whisper in his ear. His arm reaches up and he grips the back of my neck softly; turning his head toward me.

"Cleaning my weapons." His grip tightens as he pulls me over the couch and onto his lap.

"Would you like to help?" I turn to look at the display and turn towards him leaning in for a quick kiss.

"And why would I need to do that when you are doing such a wonderful job?" A grin falls beneath my lips and I fling to the side as he grabs me and flips me over on my back; hovering above me.

"Well, if you want to learn how to shoot one you'll need to get to know it first."
"Who said I want to learn how to shoot a gun?" I play with his hair between my fingers.

"You never know when you might need to." His voice sounded serious at first but then a smile formed around his mouth.

"Yeah I think I'll pass... I don't like guns. You can handle them when we need them okay." I bring his neck down.

"Maybe I can convince you later... But for now I am starving. You want something?"
He pulls himself up and pulls me with him.

"No it's okay I'll make you something. You sit and get these guns finished so you can pack them away okay." I walk towards the kitchen. I start gathering eggs and hear distant voices coming from the lounge. My heart drops, I slowly walk towards the lounge and feel a sudden weight lift as I realize it was just the TV.

"A three year search comes to a tragic end as police have just confirmed that the discovery Oakstead Police Department made two days ago is that of missing Police Officer Devan Hale. Authorities are still assessing the scene and further details will follow."

I look towards Shane standing behind the couch and instantly my heart sinks; I run and wrap my arms around him.

"Shane, I'm so sorry!" His face blank, he stands motionless staring at the TV.

"Shane..."

I take his face trying to make eye contact but his sudden grip around my wrists sends a jolt down my spine as he pushes me away. He grabs one of the smaller hand guns on the table and storms toward the door, ripping it open. The loud slam as the door closes sends me rushing after him.

"SHANE!"

I scream trying to get his attention but he carries on walking towards the lake. I start running after him but instantly stop as he turns around.

"Shane..."
"Go inside." His voice; barely audible as his eyes start growing dark. I slowly walk closer watching the gun by his side, firmly in his hand.

"Sage, go inside!" The tone of his voice sounds flat as it echoes through the air. My body starts shaking as I try to put words together.

"Shane... Just let -"
"-I SAID GO INSIDE!" I freeze as he storms towards me grabbing my jaw. My body turns numb feeling something cold press against my face. His face inches away from mine I feel terror fill me at the sight of his eyes. Nothing but rage.

I obey his command and run towards the house. Shutting the door behind me, I make my way to the room and fall to my knees unable to keep back the tears.
