I walk towards the kitchen looking for something to make for dinner. I can't stop thinking about what Shane said.
Why say all those things? Why does it feel like he is willing to throw away everything we have? He wouldn't do that would he? No... He wouldn't. Wait... Do you even know him, like really know him?
Well not to that extent but sure I know him. He is-
A sudden noise coming from the living room pushes my thoughts back. I slowly walk to where the sound came from. I take a look around me and see nothing out of the ordinary.
It's probably just Shane...
"Shane is that you?"
I half shout while walking into the living room. I turn around and look towards the front door. A chill runs up my spine as I see the door slightly open.
"Shane!" My voice turns to a whisper; I slowly walk towards the door. My legs start buckling but I keep walking. My heart beats against my chest, begging me to turn around and run.
Okay, okay, okay... It's just you and Shane, there is no one...
I open the door slowly peeking outside; I see a small light in the distance. Feeling tons lighter I calm down seeing its Shane working on something down by the shed next to the lake.
I take a deep breath: "It's just Shane."
"Nope."
A deep husky voice whispers next to me, instantly causing my heart to crumble. His hand covers my mouth as his other arm wraps around my waist picking me up. Panic sets in and I feel my cheeks being flooded as I struggle to breathe.
My screams muffled, I grab his arm as I desperately try to dig my heels into the floor. We stop suddenly and I notice we are in the kitchen. I feel a soft cloth replace his hand, forcing my mouth open as it tightens against the back of my head. His hands move towards mine, bending it back as he ties them together.
"Now we wait." His voice causes my stomach to turn, feeling like it's being knotted into a huge ball of vomit.
His grip tightens as he pulls me closer toward him. My eyes follow his other arm as he wraps it around me, across my chest. My breathing speeds up as I notice the gun in his hand.
"Sage?" Shane's voice echoes through the house turning my legs numb.
I try to scream but his grip tightens, feeling his warm breath against my ear: "Shh."
Time felt like I stood still. I desperately wanted to see Shane's face but at the same time I didn't.
"Where are-"
Shane's words cut off as he enters the kitchen. His reaction was too fast to comprehend as I notice Shane standing with his arms stretched out pointing a gun toward us.
"Drop it!" The man's voice sounded firm.
Shane doesn't move, keeping his gaze.
My body, paralyzed at the man's sudden movement, bringing his arm up and pressing the gun against my head. "Do not make me do it Shane!"
Shane? He knows him?
Shane holds his form but slowly drops the gun to his side.
"You know what to do."
Shane's eyes filled with anger he quickly drops the magazine, placing the gun on the floor and kicks both the gun and magazine towards us.
"Just let her go!" Shane's voice sounds firm as he brings his hands up.
"How did you find us?" I see Shane's eyes narrow.
"Mmm now I see why you ran."
He moves a strand of hair from my face using his gun.
"GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF HER!" Shane's voice cracks as he takes a step closer.
"Mmm... I suggest you change your tone of voice real quick." He pauses and leans closer to my ear.
The man's grip makes me clench my eyes, feeling the gun firmly pressed against my head.
"Maybe I should see for myself... Mmm Sage, what do you think? I promise I won't hurt you... too much."
Unable to look at Shane I close my eyes trying to keep my tears from falling.
"I swear if you touch her I'll-"
"-Kill me? Like you killed your own brother?"
I open my eyes, staring at Shane. His eyes meet mine and I see his anger turns to grief as he mouths: 'Forgive me.'
He turns his eyes toward the man behind me.
"Yeah you're right. I did it. "
"Oh come on Shane, don't be a coward. Say it!" The man's grip tightens around my wrists forcing my back to arch.
"I killed Devan."
My heart sinks hearing those words fall from Shane's mouth. Everything around me is spinning as it feels like the earth is busy swallowing me.
I am in love with a murderer.
"And there you have it... Did you hear him Sage, or should he say it again?"
I shake my head side to side as the tears seep through the cloth in my mouth.
"Sage I'm sorry." Shane's voice stutters as I see a tear roll down his cheek.
"I need you to go on your knees and put your hands behind your head." Shane's eyes fixed on mine; he obeys the man's order. The mans grip loosens as he leaves me and walks towards Shane gripping his hands and cuffing it behind his back before helping him up.
"Detective Shane Colton, you are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court. You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions. You have the right -"
The deep husky voice starts to sound muffled and faint as I try to comprehend what is busy happening. I feel all my organs slowly coming to a complete stand still.
I look at the man to see if I can recognize him but a black balaclava and dark glasses is all I see. He walks back and I hear him fiddle in something behind me. As I turn to look, a small sharp pain shoots through my neck.
"All this will be over real soon, I promise."
I turn around, trying to run towards the front door but my legs give in, I feel a warm grip around me causing my heart to speed up as I try to fight. I notice everything starting to blur and spin around me at the same time.
"I am so sorry Sage." Shane's voice echoes through my ears.
A soft whisper starts fading as I slowly fall into darkness. "I love you! Always remember-"
