I hurry towards the bar seeing Emma standing behind it.
"Do you have an opening?"

She looks at me with confusion arching her brows together.
"Well hello to you too sunshine, had fun last night?"

I press my hands against the counter leaning forward.
"What? yes... Do you have an opening for me?"

"To work here? Why would you want that?"

"Do you have one or not?"

She drops the cloth on the counter and grabs a bottle from underneath, placing two tumblers next to it in front of her.
"Yeah sure I'll get you in for a few shifts. But first tell me everything!"

I take a seat watching her pour the whiskey.
"Tell you what?"

She pushes the glass towards me and downs her drink, placing the glass down. "You and James..."

"Oh um we... just danced." I down my drink and nod, placing the glass in front of me.

"Mmm. Didn't look like just dancing to me." She pours another round wearing a small smile.

"What do you mean?" I ask, trying to remember.

"Well... I saw you two basically resuscitating each other on the dance floor and the next moment you were in his arms wrapping your legs around him."

I down my drink again feeling it burn its way down my throat. "And then?" I clear my throat, folding my arms as I rest them on the counter.

"Well I was hoping you could tell me... When I looked again you two were gone."

"What else did you see Emma?"

Her eyes widen for a second as she picks up the cloth and carries on wiping the counter.

"Exactly what I just told you. What's with all the questions Say-linn? Is everything okay?"

I tighten the strap around my shoulder and look around me, scanning the half empty room.

"Everything is fine, guess I just had a bit too much to drink... So can I start tonight?"

Her eyes shimmer like she just remembered something.

"Well you actually came at the best time! We have an open mic night tonight and will be packed. Be here at six and please wear something a bit more revealing, it's great for tips."

"Shouldn't you check with whoever owns this place first?"

Her eyes roll back as she lets out a small giggle. "Hon, the owner eats out of my hands. Don't worry about him. Oh when you see James tell him he owes us all a round."

I nod slowly forcing a small smile.

Yeah I don't even know where James is.

I walk towards the bar and follow Emma's hand waving at me to enter through the side.

"Whoa Say-linn, now that is going to turn a lot of heads!"

I look down at my outfit, tight black cocktail dress with thin straps and matching high heels.

"Um, thanks?"

"Okay so the drinks are straightforward, we will only be serving beer tonight. You'll need to move fast and don't take any nonsense, okay. And if you need help just shout, I'm going to help set up the stage and if you get thirsty help yourself. Um... that should be it. Any questions?"

"Is it only you and me tonight?"

She brushes past me grabbing two jugs of beer. "Oh no, Jamie and Sienna will be here soon. I'll introduce you later."
