CHAPTER 12 - I Won't Lose You Again

The door rattles, I jump down from the pull-up bar and turn down the music while walking towards the door.
Opening it I see him standing there looking like he needs sleep.

"Devan..."

"Brother." His voice sounding croaky.

"You've been drinking?"

"Does it matter?" He says moving towards me. I stretch my arm up, placing it on the doorframe blocking him from entering.

"Not a good time brother." I say hoping he will not retaliate.

"What? Get out of my way Shane don't be an-" His words fall short as I feel a presence hover behind me.

"What is she doing here?"

I look over my shoulder seeing her wearing one of my t-shirts and boxers.

Great....

Before I could answer, Devan grabs my arm and pushes past me. I turn around looking at Sage then back at him.

"Devan..." I try to calm the situation but see his face turn red.

"So you two-"
"-Devan look at me! Sage, go to the room!"

I command them both and grab Devan behind the neck and walk him outside onto the balcony. He turns and looks at me, his eyes dark blue, I know he has reached his limit.

"How could you?"

"It's not what-"
"-You're my brother Shane, I am supposed to trust you!"

"Devan you need to calm down!

"Calm down? Calm down! How the fuck-"
"-DEVAN!"

His jaw clenches as his eyes turn black.
"You know what Shane, you two are just perfect for each other! You both can go fuck-"
"-can I say something?"

"What Shane? You're going to tell me how she screwed that guy and now you too?"

"Are you hearing yourself right now?"
I ask, unable to contain my anger as I feel it rising in my chest.

"I didn't sleep with her. After what happened between you two she needed a place to stay."

His eyebrows arches. "For a week? What's wrong with her place?"

"She was a wreck man... She didn't want to be alone and I wasn't going to kick her out either."

"She had sex with another man!"
"She made a damn mistake Devan... Maybe you should ask why."

"What! How can you justify-"
"-I'm not justifying anything but you have not been easy to be with lately. Go talk to her and sort this out. She made a mistake. When we spoke I could see she regrets what she did. Give her a chance to speak and maybe you'll see it too."

He rubs his eyes before letting out a sigh.
"I can't believe you are defending her."
Feeling my blood boil I take a deep breath stopping myself from acting on it.

"Just remember one thing, you are not innocent so give her some slack."

"You didn't tell her, did you?"

"It's not my place to tell her."

I walk back inside towards the kitchen, I take a glass and pour myself a drink.
I hear Devan walk past me towards the bedroom.

"Sage..."

"Devan I'm so sorry!" I hear her voice faint plastered with tears.

"Shh, it's okay... I am sorry too..."
