XCVII: tender fire

a tender fire raging to be held—
that yearns to be touched with warmth.
ahh, this warmth, this heat, this softness burnt—
that steams in ravaging flames of scorching love.
my love for you—burns and burns and burns and burns and burns:

until the flames become embers;
'til the embers become ashes;
'til the ashes become a particle.

until i was extinguished by my sole flame--
'til it became a fragment
burnt from warmth & tenderness.
'til it drew a scar burnt from love.

until only the empty space—
that i had burnt for you was left.
