= Khaius =

Cidney was gone.

He was hurt and heading home.

Khaius's blood boiled as he began to pace. No one moved as he ran a hand down his face.

They went after a fully formed demon, with only two of them! Were they insane?

That moment he realized Cidney was gone was burned into his mind.

He was discussing what aid the Paragons could offer when he realized he hadn't heard Cidney's footsteps for some time. He turned and his chest seized.

Cidney was gone. Just... gone!

His hands began shaking when he told Kraten to take him home. Kraten didn't argue; he knew Khaius. He got Cidney out of the line of fire.

Aveo stepped forward and put his hand on his shoulder. "Breathe, Khaius. He was pretty bad ass in there."

He smacked his arm off his shoulder. "He was injured!"

"He's a gargoyle; he's going to get hurt. It's part of the job," Aveo reminded him.

A job Cidney shouldn't have.

"Over my dead body," he growled low.

When he got back to that apartment, he was going to make it clear to him. No more fighting demons.

Aveo smirked. "Good luck with that, boss."

Qlide snorted in agreement.

"Get your asses down there and clean up that mess," he snarled.

He needed them gone so he could calm down. Both of them disappeared down the manhole.

He leaned on the hood of the car and took deep breaths.

Cidney was alive. He was being taken care of. It's fine.

It wasn't fine. Feeling THIS over him... that wasn't fine.

I didn't need this shit in my life!

The way Cidney's violet eyes sparkled as he quoted Hippocrates...

He'd never met anyone who could keep up with him until Cidney.

And it had to be his Pair!

Khaius growled as he started pacing again.

Feeling was off his menu. It was what kept him calm, and Cidney was fucking with it!

He took several deeper breaths, trying to dislodge the vise in his chest.

Cidney was fucking fine! Why was I still shaking like this?

The ridiculous Pairing!

Control, Khaius, you need to find your control.

He closed his eyes and focused.

Control, control, control.

His phone rang.

He pulled it out of his pocket and cursed. It was Aldric.

"Yes?" he answered.

"Did you kill the demon yet?" Aldric demanded.

"Yes. He was injured, demon blood," he bit out.

"Why was he there?" Aldric growled.

"He didn't give us much choice," he stated. "Kraten is taking him back to his place."

"Keep him off the front line," Aldric ordered.

"I will," he growled.

"And keep your distance," Aldric reminded him. "I can already hear the emotion in your voice."
