Wednesday and Enid found themselves alone in the school courtyard after a rainstorm, staring at each other in silence. The atmosphere was thick with tension and unspoken words. As they watched the rain continue to fall, a look of sadness washed over their faces.

Wednesday spoke first, her voice barely above a whisper. "Do you remember when we first met?"

Enid smiled sadly, remembering their early days together. "Of course I do. It feels like a lifetime ago."

Wednesday nodded. "It does. Things were different back then, weren't they?"

Enid nodded in agreement. "Yes, they were. We were the best of friends, and I never thought it would turn out like this."

Wednesday sighed, her eyes downcast. "Neither did I. But sometimes things just don't work out the way we want them to."

The two of them stood there for what felt like an eternity, lost in their thoughts. Finally, Wednesday broke the silence. "Well, I guess we should go," she said, starting to turn away.

Enid nodded but didn't move. "Yeah, I guess we should."

As Wednesday walked to the door, Enid called out to her. "Wednesday, wait!"

Wednesday turned back and looked at Enid, who was still standing in the rain. Enid gestured to the empty space between them. "Can we at least walk together, one last time?"

Wednesday smiled sadly and nodded. "Of course, Enid. Of course."

And with that, the two of them walked away from each other, their hearts heavy with the weight of their memories and the knowledge of what could have been.

As they walked, Wednesday remembered the days when she and Enid were inseparable. They were so close, they could finish each other's sentences. They did everything together, from studying to hanging out after class. It all seemed so simple back then.

Enid, on the other hand, was lost in her own set of memories. She thought of the times when they were young and full of innocence. When life seemed nothing but a never-ending adventure, waiting to be discovered.

With each step they took, both Wednesday and Enid looked to the past, missing the good old days. They knew that they would never go back to those days, but they couldn't help but feel a sense of longing and nostalgia.

As they walked past the classroom where they used to have their math class, Wednesday looked at Enid and said, "Do you remember that time we forgot to do our homework and the teacher caught us?"

Enid smiled, "How could I forget? We were always so forgetful."

Wednesday chuckled, "Yeah, we were. But we somehow always managed to get away with it."

Enid smiled again, remembering those moments when they were both so carefree and irresponsible. "We were definitely a bad influence on each other."

Both of them continued to walk, lost in their thoughts. But then Wednesday stopped and turned to look at Enid. "Hey, can I ask you something?"

Enid turned to look at Wednesday, "Sure, what is it?"

Wednesday took a deep breath and asked, "Do you think we could ever go back to the way we used to be?"

Enid paused for a moment before answering, "I don't know. I think we've both changed too much."

Wednesday's face fell. "I know. I guess it's just wishful thinking."

The two of them stood there for a moment, silence filling the air around them. They knew that they couldn't turn back time, no matter how much they wanted to.

After a few seconds, Wednesday let out a sigh. "Well, I guess we should get going. I don't want to be late for class."

Enid nodded, "Yeah, me neither. See you later, Wednesday."

Wednesday gave Enid a small smile before walking away. As she walked, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness wash over her. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't stop missing the old days when she and Enid were inseparable. She knew that things had changed between them, but there was still a part of her that held on to the hope that one day, they could find their way back to each other.

As she walked into class, Wednesday tried her best to focus on the lesson. But it was hard to concentrate when all she could think about was Enid. She couldn't help but wonder how Enid was doing and if she was thinking about her, too.

The day seemed to drag on forever, and Wednesday was grateful when the final bell rang. She grabbed her things and quickly made her way out of the building. As soon as she stepped outside, she took a deep breath of fresh air, feeling like she finally had a chance to clear her head.

As she walked towards her bus stop, she couldn't help but notice a familiar figure walking towards her. It was Enid.

Wednesday's heart surged with a mix of happiness and anxiety. She wanted to run up to Enid and talk to her, but she didn't want to seem desperate. So, she just kept walking, hoping that Enid would notice her and say something.

Finally, when they were close enough to talk, Enid looked up and spotted Wednesday. She smiled and waved. Wednesday waved back, feeling a sense of relief wash over her.

As they walked in silence side by side, Wednesday couldn't help but feel the weight of the moment. It was like they were both standing on a precipice, not sure if they should take the leap.

Finally, Wednesday spoke up. "Enid, can we talk?"

Enid nodded, "Sure, Wednesday. What's on your mind?"

Wednesday took a deep breath, "I just wanted to say that I've missed you. I know things haven't been easy between us, but I still care about you and I want to work things out."

Enid looked at her with a mix of surprise and sadness in her eyes. "Wednesday, I don't think we can go back to the way things were. Too much has happened and we've both changed."

Wednesday's heart sank at Enid's words, but she knew that they were the truth. "You understand. I just wanted to clear the air and tell you how I felt. But no matter what, I'll always be here for you, Enid. No matter what the future holds."

Enid nodded, "I appreciate that, Wednesday. And I'll always be here for you, too. Even if things don't work out between us, I'll always hold a special place in my heart for you."

Wednesday's heart warmed at Enid's words. Even though they may never be close again, the fact that Enid still cared about her meant a lot. She gave Enid a small hug before saying goodbye.

As Enid walked away, Wednesday stood there, watching her go. She knew that things wouldn't be easy, but she was willing to give it her all to keep their friendship alive. She still had a long way to go, but she was determined to make things right between them. After all, Enid was still her best friend and she wouldn't let anything come between them. Not even themselves.
