Chapter 23 - Gradual Changes

(Third Person POV)

Alex walked briskly through the bustling corridors of the company building. He had an appointment with Miyako to discuss his schedule for the upcoming weeks. As he made his way to her office, his mind drifted back to a series of missed calls he had received not too long ago. The calls were from Akane.

To say that he was surprised that he was bombarded with those missed calls was an understatement. The moment he opened his phone in the taxi heading home, only to see her name on his notifications telling him that he missed exactly thirteen of her calls did much to his psyche.

'She's really that desperate to see me huh...'

It had been a while since he had last talked to her. After the emotional whirlwind of the reality dating show and the complicated feelings that had arisen during that time, he had distanced himself from Akane to protect her from his carnal desires. Part of him was still scared to confront her, scared to address the tangle of emotions that had built up between them.

But things had changed recently. He was able to vent some of his frustrations and desires, enabling him to sort through his feelings... thanks to his eventful time with Frill. He realized that he couldn't keep avoiding Akane forever. It was time to have an honest conversation with her, to clear the air and to understand where they stood.

As he approached Miyako's office, he made a mental note to call Akane real soon. It was a small step, but an important one. He couldn't keep running from his own emotions, and he owed it to Akane, and himself, to face the truth of their feelings and the complexities of their camaraderie.

As Alex entered Miyako's office, he was met with an unexpected sight. Gathered inside were Kana, Ruby, Miyako, and a new face he had seen before. He couldn't help but ask, "What's going on in here?"

Miyako took the lead in introducing the newcomer. "Alex, this is Mem-Cho," she said, motioning towards the new woman. "She's our newest idol addition to B-Komachi."

Alex raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised by the news. "Mem-Cho, huh? Nice to meet you," he said, extending his hand in greeting.

Mem-Cho, however, didn't shake his hand. Instead, she took a step closer to Alex, her expression animated and her voice cheerful. "Oh, Alex! Aqua's younger brother! I've heard so much about you. My you really have the same face as him. You're even more handsome in person, sturdily built, and significantly taller than Aqua!" She chuckled, her YouTuber personality shining through.

Alex blinked at the effusive praise, not entirely sure how to respond. There was something about Mem-Cho that felt a little off to him as if she were older than she looked or hiding something beneath her cheerful demeanor. Nevertheless, he managed a polite smile and replied, "Thank you, Mem-Cho. It's a pleasure to meet you too."

He couldn't help but wonder what kind of dynamic Mem-Cho would bring to the group and how her presence might affect the relationships within B-Komachi. In any case, having someone else Ruby can rely on is always welcomed.

With the introduction of Mem-Cho as the newest member of B-Komachi, Ruby's excitement was palpable. She practically bounced on her toes, her enthusiasm overflowing like a fizzy soda. "Wow, we have another member now! That's so awesome!"

Kana, always the calm and composed one, gently put a hand on Ruby's shoulder to steady her. "Ruby, geez hold your horses."

Ruby took a deep breath, reigning in her excitement. "Right, right!"

Meanwhile, Mem-Cho continued to watch Alex with keen interest. As he observed his little sister's antics, she couldn't help but remember seeing Alex and Akane together outside the police station not long ago. Curiosity got the best of her, and she decided to ask the burning question. "So, what's your relationship with Akane?"
