A/N: little warning ⚠️ for you guys, this chapter contains racism.

Nat's POV:

We stay in silence for a bit letting Y/N think of all her options in this mess of a situation. Well mess for normal people, I wish this was one of the most complex stuff I'd have to deal with in a year. "Please Y/N, you need to save our asses. The speech's at 9, it still gives you time to prepare" The man pleads

"I'll do it." She finally gives in, making her co-worker squeal and jump in her arms "okay!" She catches him by reflex, clearly not expecting this. " Calm down Sam, it's fine, I got you" She soothes him

"Thank you sooo much!!! You're saving my life! I really owe you one" He says in the crook of her neck, before leaning back and kissing her forehead. Not losing another second, he gets back to his feet and runs away, screaming some cheery celebration.

Y/N seemed too stunned by all of Espinoza's reactions to fully take in any of them "I don't like him anymore" I state, slight jealousy peaking through at the little kiss -though I know nothing would ever happen- but my sentence visibly unfreezes my girl since she starts laughing

"Don't be jealous Romanoff, he's just a co-worker. Plus, we both know I only got eyes for you!" She flirts cutely, playing with my hands

"I'm not jealous" I deny making her scoff

"Sure, dear"

We then sit at a random table, eat and talk, people slowly gathering at tables to eat, the mood changing, still jovial but a bit more relaxed.

We're having fun with the guests around us, though at some point the both of us focus our attention on making a small plan of what she'll say on stage. -Luckily an officer's wife had a paper and a pen in her purse and kindly gave it to Y/N-

It's now pretty lat win the night and stress is more and more visible in Y/N's demeanor, even more when journalists make their presence officially known, standing in the room among us.

"It's going to be okay, baby" I reassure her putting a hand on her joined ones, stopping their slight fiddling.

"I'm not sure about that, I don't even know what they want from me! I just did my job and here they are, asking a ton of useless questions. Nobody makes a great fuss when a surgeon gets his operation right and saves a life, why do I get that? Did a doc ever get interviewed for saving a life?" She rambles stressfully making me smile

I'm about to answer the most helpful thing I'm thinking about, but don't since the room goes silent. I turn towards the stage and see Espinoza and what I guess is his partner walking on stage.

"Is the microphone working everyone?" He tests, the people in the room answering with a bunch of 'yes' and thumbs up "Okay, great! We won't steal the show for too long I promise" He jokes "We just want to thank everyone for coming to this even and upgrading it in their own way" He says leaving the mic to his co-worker.

"Yes, like Sam said, we really think having this small reunion of our services helps a certain bonding, which can be nothing but helpful." The woman starts and I can instantly see she's way more comfortable than her partner in front of this crowd "But we're also here because we all deserve to let a little steam off with some great food and cold beers" She explains agreements and laughs making their way through the room.

"So before we let you be with those beers, we'd like to give the mic a few minutes to a woman who adapted very well in the crazy world we now live in and represents the police in the best way she ever could. Even more with the case she solved with her partner in the latest week. Please welcome," The man - who has the mic once again- takes a small pause to let everyone guess who he's talking about "Y/N Anderson!"
