"Where's Levi?"
"I just talked to her- are you not listening? MIA IS GONE"
"I heard you the first time Max"
-Nicholas-
I pull away letting him stumble back to the floor.
"So you're just gonna walk away?"
I keep walking not bothering to talk to him right now, the reason he's still breathing is because killing him would upset Mia.
"Stay here just incase she comes back" I say just before stepping out of the building and into my car. I know Mia, I know her better than I know myself which is why the first place I think of might just be exactly where she is.
I drive past every red light, every slow car. I don't stop once till I'm there, that's the only time my foot actually touches the break pedal. The second I stop I walk out and into the park. Please be here, please Mia.
I walk through the paths we once both did, the flowers have frozen over no longer being as beautiful as once as it was when Mia walked past them. Then there, right there on the small green island I see someone laying still. My heart completely shatters, completely comes apart and I think I've had a heart attack. The water is completely freezing when I jump in swimming toward it, toward my Mia.
-Mia-
I lay still looking up at the many stars filling the blank canvas that seems to stretch to infinity. But it's when I hear a splash that I shift my head towards it, then out of nowhere Nicholas is on the island running towards me.
I gasp and blink and gasp some more but he collapses straight onto his knees cupping my head with his wet cold hands.
"Are you hurt?" He asks as water drips down his face "baby are you hurt?" When I fail to answer the second time he begins grabbing my hands, pulling them over and over checking both sides for any signs I tried to- wait. My heart instantly sinks, its such a cold and lonely feeling.
"What are you doing?"
"I- everyone thought-" he paused shaking his head unable to say it.
"That I killed myself? Seriously?" I pull of his hold standing up "I try once and everyone just assumes that the second I go for a walk is me trying again?"
"Except you didn't go for a walk, you ran"
"Walk, run same thing" I huff turning around facing anything but him right now. I want peace and get annoyance.
"Don't be mad at me"
His voice is so soft, how could I be mad.
"I'm not, I just- I wanted to breath and here you are-" I turn around looking at him "- drenched and freezing half to death"
"It's okay-"
"No, you're not. I'll give it at least one more minute till you're sick" why is he so stubborn "go back, tell everyone I'm fine and not in fact trying to kill myself"
"If you think I'm going to leave you then please think again"
"I'm not going to kill myself Nicholas"
"I know, I believe you. But I'm still not going to leave you"
I let out a breath trying to regain the strength to not scream "fine, but then put this on" I take of my jacket handing it over to him.
"I'm not putting that on"
"Why not?"
"Because you'll be cold, and because my arm wouldn't make it through without ripping your jacket"
I chuckle "then just throw it around you"
"No-"
"Do it or I'm jumping into the water myself"
"You won't make it one step toward that water Mia, put your jacket back on"
I smile, memories are a bitch.
"You won't even be able to open that door half way before you're back on that bed"
We'll see about that, i yank the door open but he was right, it didn't even open half way before i was tossed into the air and back onto the bed.
"As I said"
I get up again, the audacity in the prick is remarkable really. I didn't even feel him coming up to me.
"I'm leaving" i state.
"Be my guest" he says gesturing to the door but it's more of a dare to try again, guess he doesn't really know me then does he "but if you take one more step Mia I'll break both your legs"
I stop moving and face him, he's smiling with satisfaction written all over his stupid face and I would love nothing more than to wipe it clean for him if I got the chance.
