Chapter 2

Last night's event feels like a wind that just passed by so fast and here I am going back and forth in my room deciding to whether to face Joshua this morning or just let him off to work and make myself some breakfast.

Don't get me wrong tho. Joshua is a very good person, he's a great guy. Besides him being so rich he can be a dependable person also. And on top of that, he never makes me feel so different from him except of course last night.

As I felt my stomach growl telling me that I should eat, I calmed myself down and slowly opened the door of my room and to my surprise Joshua was there already there ready to knock on my door.

"Hi" he said with a small smile and I nodded

"H-hi" I Stuttered unsure if my reply was right

"Nervous all of a sudden?" he said trying to make himself not to laugh at my expression

I immediately rolled my eyes at him completely reminding me that 'Joshua is Joshua, the man who is my best friend and who is good on teasing me all of the time'

I heave a sigh as I mockingly laugh at him and made my way to the stairs to go down and find something to eat in the kitchen.

He soon followed after and found me looking at the interior of his kitchen which is very beautiful by the way.

"I guess you're hungry" he said as he went straight to the kitchen top and gave me the plate of pancakes.

"I hope you're not a heavy eater in the morning, this is the only thing I made for today" he says as he made me sit on the chair Infront of the kitchen top.

I stared at the pancake that is beautifully prepared infont of me, making me want to eat it in one gulp. That's a sarcasm by the way.

"Thank you" I told him as I grab the fork beside the plate and took a bite of the pancake.

"It's delicious" I said as I tasted the sweet syrup and the pancake in my mouth. It tastes so expensive to be honest.

"Did you make this?" I asked as he watch me stuff the pancake in my mouth

"Yeah" he simply answered making me nod at him.

Minutes passed by and the only thing that was heard in this space is me and my loud utensils that is hitting the plate.

But I don't care though. I'm hungry, and it's been a long time since I had this kind of food and I kinda missed it.

Soon after, the silence was broke by Joshua by asking me a question that caught me off guard

"May I know how did you even get to have a debt that big?" He asked as I stopped myself from eating

While remembering the very moment why I have a huge loan from the loan shark.

It made me silent for a while but I courage myself enough to answer his question.

"It's for my mom" I told him

And he went silent which I took a sign to continue

"My mom was very sick at that time, we can't find any good hospitals for her to be cured that's why my father decided to confine her to a private hospital"

"The first month went well and my mother got discharged but after two weeks she had a seizure that we have to go back to the hospital again and after that she never came out" I explained which is very painful for me to remember

"My mom died with the illness she has which made our bill sore up so high we lost all of our money and my dad had to sold our house and property" I continued

"But it still not enough, we still have to pay for the burial of my mom and since we have to do it immediately we also need to pay the morgue as soon as possible and that's when my Father borrowed from the loan sharks" as I told him this, it made my heart so heavy as I remember how my father cried for my mother the day she got burried.

"And then?" Joshua asks letting me continue the story

I heave a deep sigh as I looked down in the half eaten pancake on my plate

"After a month of my mother's passing I was still mourning for her but my dad suddenly brought someone in the house"

"Telling me it was his new wife and she's pregnant"

"I was very mad and was so broken hearted at what he did asking my father how did he even find a replacement of my mom that fast" I continued as I sob between my words

I wiped away my tears and continued

"I left the house that time and in the morning I returned at our home, but instead of meeting my father at the doorsteps it was the loan sharks who greeted me"

"They ask me where my father was. I was scared, afraid that my father has left me, I went inside the house and it was empty. Even the gas stove it was all gone overnight he left me with nothing" I sobbed as I continued

My heart aches as I remember that day. The moment that I realized I was alone. My world suddenly just stopped spinning.

Joshua approached me as he hugged me and tap my back softly as I cried in his chest

"I'm sorry for asking, I shouldn't ask about it" he said still comforting me.

I broke away from the hug and wiped my tears

"It's okay, it's not your fault at least I get to let out all of this emotions now" I told him as I sniff between sobs.

Joshua returned from his seat and hand me a tissue.

"So is that why the loan sharks chased you instead?" He told me which made me nod and and sniff silently

"Have you heard from your father since then?" He asked and I shake my head as a sign of no.

He went silent and watch my figure trying to eat the pancake in front of me.

"You were struggling for that long yet you didn't even said a word whenever we meet" he said and I immediately look up at him with guilt

"I'm sorry I just don't want to bother you with this besides, this is my responsibility" I told him

"No Jewel, it was not your responsibility, it was your father's. If he didn't left you there the loan sharks wouldn't chase you" he said making me silent as I watched his annoyed face

"I know, but it was for my mom after all, so it's still my responsibility" I said which made him look at me pissed off

"Here I thought you are smart in our whole class but now you're just being plainly stupid" he bluntly said while he drinks his coffee

"Ouch" I said

"Deserve" he replied making me rolled my eyes at him.

I scoffed at him and continued eating my pancakes silently. That was a roller coaster ride of emotions.

"Finish your breakfast and we'll go to the doctor's appointment after" he said as he looked at his wristwatch while I raised my eyebrows at him

"Hmm? Why?" I asked

"Of course for your check up I need to make sure that you can bear my child without having any problem in the future".

"And what if I can't?"

"I doubt it, you are an active person and as much as I don't want to point it out you're so conscious in every food you eat" he explains while I looked at him shocked

"Was I that obvious?" I asked him and he nodded immediately

"Yeah, ever since we're in highschool I already knew that" he answered confidently as if he's keeping track of my single move every time.

"You're so creepy" I answered finishing the last bite of my pancakes.
