I remember so vividly
The pain of unrequited love
A child in the world with cotton filled mouth
Screaming in my head notice me
One day I found the courage to say hi
I had it all planned out
To tell you your beauty rivaled a goddess
How even on the brightest days
You out shown the sun’s rays
How I could always hear your voice
Amid the cackle of your friends
And it would make my heart skip
Your laughter entranced stronger than a sirens song;
But when the fateful time came
And I called out your name
My mouth was full of sand
Grit chipped teeth and raw tongue
The silence that followed haunted me continuously;
Your blank eyes and confusion piercing more than any knife could;
In my frustrated misery I stood
Watching as you walked away with giggling friends;
Just a child trying to be eloquent
And find his first love
But a poignant lesson was learned
A child’s love may be strong
But it is also a fickle thing
When it comes to making it reality.
