Xander’s POV:

How was I meant to help June when she wouldn’t let me touch her?

Was there something I’d missed?

The look of fear in her eyes was enough to haunt me for the rest of eternity.

She looked like I was going to harm her; like I was going to make her regret living.

Seeing her so scared of me, bore a hole through my soul.

What had I done wrong?

Did I scare her in any way without knowing?

It had been a week since I tried to carry her.

I was thinking of trying again but if I saw the look of fear in her eyes again, it would make me go insane.

She’s currently staring blankly at the balcony.

I couldn’t help but wonder what she thought about. Maybe she was ready to let me carry her now.

A sigh escaped when I moved closer and sat at the foot of the bed.

“please angel. Let…let me help you” I slowly brought my hand to her body to see if she would react.

So far nothing negative.

That was a good sign. I pulled her close and gave her a hug.

My ears picked up a sigh of relief from her.

I’m guessing she wanted the same thing as well.

If I were human, this entire interaction would have made my heart pound nonstop due to nervousness.

I placed my hands under her knees and stood up.

Her body was stiff as we walked out the room but eventually relaxed over time.

When we were finally out in the gardens, she squinted her eyes but eventually adjusted to the bright light.

That was a good sign and it put me at ease.

It had been over a month since she was outside so it’s understandable.

The castle wasn’t making it better with its dark and demented vibe.

Her eyes were traveling through the gardens.

I can remember when I met her and Paloma playing here with a crown of roses on her hair.

How bright her smile was and how angelic she looked in the sunlight.

Though her eyes still looked dull, June will forever look beautiful in my eyes.

Her eyes began to follow the butterflies that passed us and I could practically see her smiling or running to reach them.

If not for her current condition, she would.

For someone of her age, she really does act like a child.
