"Guys, play along." Charley smirked as she winked at Sophia, indicating over Sophia's shoulder.

Sophia turned pretending to need to swish her hair over her shoulder. She spotted Spencer as he skipped down the stone steps an old school flip phone gripped in his claws as he furiously jabbed the buttons with his thumbs.

Sophia glared at Charley trying to figure out what her plan was. Whatever it was Sophia was sure that she would have to avoid any eye contact with Spencer throughout this encounter.

"Obviously, Dean Chakravarty. He is loaded. Old but loaded. And he runs the college. But Dr Reid. Oh, now he could get it for free. He just has to ask." Charley was obviously trying so hard to make it seem like she hadn't seen Spencer.

Spencer blushed until he was redder than a ripe tomato.

"Are you going to pretend that none of you would?" Charley's mouth hung open as she waited for a response.

Christian scoffed. "Charley, anyone could get it for free from you."

Charley opened her mouth to object. But then she succumbed. "You're not wrong. But he could ask me to do anything and I would do it. That hair. Those hands. I could dissolve in those pools he calls eyes." Charley deliberately pursed her lips and looked at me. "But unfortunately, we never get to that stage because our eye candy has his eyes somewhere else."

"Sophia," Christian chimed in along with several other who had been standing nearby.

"Not you guys as well," Sophia groaned pulling her textbooks closer to her chest. Sophia caught Spencer's eyes as he passed right by them. Sophia recoiled. "I should go," she muttered. "I'll see you all later." She prayed that Spencer hadn't heard any of it. But especially that he hadn't heard the end.

"Where are you going?" Charley shouted after her.

"Library."

Charley rolled her eyes. "Of course. Don't forget about..."

But Sophia didn't catch the end as she rushed off, escaping into the library.

The library was quiet. It was a Wednesday afternoon. All classes across campus concluded by 2pm leaving the rest of the afternoon for extracurricular activities. But usually, it just meant that there were more times for parties to be set up. That's why it was practically deserted.

Sophia scoured the shelves balancing the growing piles on one of her arms. She plonked herself right on the floor leaning up against the bookshelf, spreading her research all around her. But her mind kept drifting. Nowadays, ever since her conversation on with Alex it was like his words were haunting her. She had always been independent. She never heavily relied on anyone. Not even as a child. Her parents had always found it astonishing how different she was from her sister. Not just in her mannerisms or her personality but even her style, her speech, the way she walked, the way she looked. She didn't find it difficult at all moving away from home, away from her parents. She had always just seemed to know what she wanted to do and then she would do it. She wasn't sure anymore.

"I hope you're not doing all the reading because of me."

Sophia looked up, squinting at the dim light. Spencer propped his shoulder against the bookcase.

"Hi." She tidied up some of her books, clearing some space. "No, this is just me."

"What are you reading?" Spencer slid down to the ground, picking up one of the books and dropping it onto his laps. He noted the title of book weighing down on his leg. He quirked his eyebrow. Travel books? Then picked up another copy, stacking it on top of the other. "Travelling somewhere?"
