Fairies are small pixies that live in forests and huge gardens. They are almost the size of a human hand and they take on many shapes and skin colors. There are Pixies, Sylphs, Breezies and many more sprites.
When a baby laughs for the first time, a fairy is born. The laugh blows away and he or she is carried by the winds to the Yokai world in Fairy hollow. Once the laugh makes its way to the Pixie Tree, a dust-keeper sprinkles Pixie Dust over the laugh, resulting in his or her birth. This is an event called "The Arrival". Winter fairies are born when the laugh travels across the border, into Snowtopia.
After a fairy is born, the Queen welcomes them and commences the ceremony to discover what type of talent he or she has. She summons a circle of mushroom pedestals and fairies of each of the talent guilds bring objects to represent their talents; a flower from the gardens, an orb of light from the lights, a drop of water from the waters, a small whirlwind from the fast-flyers, an acorn of natures, a hammer from the tinkers, a snowflake from the Snow, and a sword of Pirates. The artifacts float above the pedestals and the new born fairy is allowed to approach each one. If the fairy tries to take the wrong artifact, then it will fall/dissipate. Once the fairy finds the artifact corresponding to their own talent, it will start to glow. The brighter the artifact glows, the more naturally gifted the fairy is with their talent. We did not see how Winter fairies discover their talents, but it likely resembles the method used by their warm counterparts.
After the fairy discovers their talent, the Queen asks other fairies of the same talent guild to introduce themselves and gives the newborn a name.
Fairies can have siblings if the laugh blows away into more than one fairy. Their wings are exactly the same in their design and pattern. When they approach each other, their wings sparkle.
The average of a fairy, pixie and sylph stands at five inches tall (12.7 cm). They have pointed ears and four insect-like wings, the upper pair being larger than the lower pair. Each fairy's wing design is unique, there are no two that are exactly the same, with the exception of twins, two fairies born of the same laugh.
Fairies can appear to be of any ethnicity, although they usually have button noses and slanted eyes. All Winter fairies tend to have either white or black hair, and Light fairies have dark hair and skin.
Fairies clothes' are made out of natural materials, such as leaves and flower petals. Fairies wear clothing colored to the talent he or she belongs to.
Green tinker fairies, craft objects such as wheels, baskets, pots, and pans. On top of inventing things, Tinkers also mend broken objects, as they are capable of using Pixie Dust as glue. They can invent all new kinds of helpful mechanisms. Sometimes, they head off to the beach and find some interesting objects called lost things.
Red-pink garden fairies can make any vegetation bloom in a matter of seconds. They spend most of their time outdoors. Garden-talents can sense what a plant needs and have an intuitive understanding of how to care for plants. Growing up seaweed while at the surface affirms that their magic works underwater. They also love to paint flowers and help the grass grow faster. While responsible for harvesting food, garden-talents also enjoy gathering berries, seeds, shoots, flower nectar, and mushrooms. Garden fairies occasionally work with animals, too: they sometimes train earthworms to create air tunnels underground and are highly respectful of bumblebees.
Yellow light fairies can control and bend light at will, such as moving sunbeams into a different position and catching dots of light from a light source. Looking directly at the sun without adverse effects or understanding Lightlogy is also exclusive to light-talents. Quick-witted and literally bright, they are perfectionists who love to be in the spotlight. Those responsible for keeping the hollow bright after sundown, light fairies also love to train fireflies to work as lanterns and torches. One of their special abilities is to create and manipulate rainbows. They are born having the understanding of constellations and are expert navigators; Light fairies are also by far the brightest creatures of the Hidden City. The phases of the moon affect the strength of a light-talent fairy's magic. During full moons, their skills are most powerful. And during a new moon, their magic is at the weakest.
Blue water fairies can manipulate water in astonishing ways. They are able to control it, freeze or boil and form it into various shapes or use it to create fountains. Water fairies are also able to create bubble messages. They can train tadpoles and teach fish to swim, and they all understand them. They can be found in waterways in boats made from leaves and in birch-bark canoes. These fairies also have a knack for divining and can seek out hidden sources of water. They have more water in them than other fairies, and as a consequence tears and other fluids run more easily. Many water fairies spend time near the Babbling Brook or Havendish Stream. Many water-talents are found all over Soapstone Stream, where they perform their prime work regarding sparkling dewdrops or by making ripples all over its surface.[4.
Orange animal fairies have the unique ability to speak with any animal in its native tongue, whether it be raccoon, bird, tree frog, or squirrel. They are extremely sensitive and can "read" an animal's thoughts or emotions. They know when an animal is frightened or sick and can tend to its needs to help it feel better. Like the animals they work with, animal-talent fairies have a keen sense of smell and excellent hearing. They are skilled trackers and are frequently called upon to help find fairies who have lost their way in the woods. All animal talent fairies are deeply integrated into Never Land's fauna and strive to keep it harmonious.
Purple fast fairies can also control and manipulate air, whether creating whirlwinds or breezes. These dragonfly wing shaped fairies also spot larger and broader wings than non-fast-fliers. They can use a whirlwind to store pollen and make cool breezes. The fast-flying-talent fairies do not really have an explained role- they are simply the fastest fliers (which comes in handy during some adventures for certain). They also are wind elementals of a sort, creating small tornadoes, making cool breezes, and blowing things down.
White snow fairies perform their work with frost, snow or glaciers, or by spreading delicate and intricate snowflakes across the cold currents everywhere in the Winter Woods. Frosts can cover anything like a soft blanket. Snowflakes can create a single snowflake with all types of designs. Glaciers can freeze water by skating.
The Pirate Fairies are the only ones wearing non-natural clothing. Sometimes they have colors that have blended like green or blue, violet and green, orange and red, yellow and orange, green and violet clothing.
Breezies are much smaller than fairies. They are at least three cm tall. They have single eyes, rabbit-like ears, bird wings with a tail, and deer feet. They have natural pastel color skins and appearances. They don't speak English much but they chitter and squeak. Breezies are very curious unlike fairies. They often lived in Breezie Blossoms or huge gardens outside of Earth. They surely have tiny sharp teeth that could bite a person.
Tra La La, Chipzie, and Cuddly Wink are tiny mischievous fairies for example. They are very small and cute beings that lived with a mutant they loved.
