"I'll have you know big people-"
I tried replacing the word mature, considering Jamie was having a hard time saying it
"-Cry all the time"
"No dey don"
Jamie said while rubbing their eyes.
"Oh yes they do, I cry. I cry all the time"
"Really?"
"Yeah really, my family calls me a crybaby"
Jamie almost giggled. I tried to shove in more of a lesson before they were too tired to remember it.
"Jamie it's ok to cry, in fact it's great to cry. Its a perfectly normal and natural thing that everyone needs to do once in a while. So please don't try to hold that all in cause its exhausting, isn't it?"
Jamie nodded.
"And you're pretty tired yourself"
"Uh huh"
Jamie yawned. I stood up fully.
"Lets just clean you up a bit and get to bed"
Jamie deliriously nodded.
"First, let's strip the bed"
"Ok, I sit down"
I was a bit confused until Jamie walked over to a discarded pillow and sat their still wet butt right down, watching me work through tired eyes. No doubt meaning that pillow case was also gonna have to be washed.
I quickly took off the sheet, giving that half of the bedspread was already on the floor. I thanked god again for there being no mattress stains.
"Alright let's grab you some new pyjamas"
I grabbed a pullup out of the packet sticking out from under the bed.
"Can't forget this"
I took a pullup out and held it up. They blushed like mad and puffed out their cheeks in a pout.
I then walked over to the little dear.
I held out my hand to Jamie so they could pull themselves up but they extra surprised me by continuing to hold onto my arm as we walked to my room.
I realised as I grabbed another t shirt for Jamie that with last night's shorts out of commission as well as tonight's, I had no pairs left.
Jamie stood in the middle of my room fiddling with their fingers. I turned to deliver the bad news.
"Jamie I'm really sorry but I'm all out of shorts, do you think you'd be ok in just the big t shirt and your, um... protection"
Jamie stared at me with their massive beautiful eyes, a small frown traced their lips, a pout almost. I can't imagine they were it was the look they were going for but they looked practically adorable.
They seemed to tired to argue thought as they spat back at me
"Fine, but just tonight"
"Of course, I'll have them washed before you get up tomorrow"
I gave the new shirt and to Jamie, just a plain black tee, as well as the pullup.
I walked out to bathroom across the hall, turning on the lights and directing Jamie inside.
They got changed and came back out. The t shirt went well past the pullup and seemed to give Jamie a little comfort.
I brought them back over to my bed, pulling back the covers and letting them clamber in.
Though before they got too comfortable I snuck in a quick little scold.
"Jamie I don't want this becoming a regular thing, you know you need the pullups and I know you're trying to be big-"
I tried to keep it simple.
"-but big people are able to accept help when they need it, do you get what I'm saying dear?"
Jamie blushed a little and squirmed to get comfy before nodding, mumbling.
"Uh huh, get it"
I smiled at them, rubbing their back through the duvet. Jamies eyes fluttered close. I stood and slowly backed out.
"Night andi"
Jamie called out, snuggling up to their pillow.
I beamed
"Night Jamie"
I headed to downstairs to the trusty couch, groaning at the thought of the repeated neck crick I'd be getting tomorrow.
