Race and Romeo were sitting next to each other in math class, fanning themselves with the paper they folded.

"I's miserable", Race slurred, sweating from the heat. "Where's this school's budget when we need it?"

"Same", Romeo whined, leaning back in his seat and placing his feet on his desk. He looked around at all of the empty desks surrounding him, groaning when a wave of heat hit him. "Ain't they got fans in here?"

Race rolled his eyes and glared at Romeo. "It's your fault we's here."

"Me? I ain't the one who decided to take Snyder's shoes and hide them in the lost and found!"

"And I ain't the one who put the water on the floor so he'd fall!"

Race and Romeo sighed, sitting in a painful silence in the math classroom after school. Most of their friends would be at Jack's house right now, watching movies and playing games. That was the salt in the wound.

But detention was its peroxide.

"God", Race sighs, fanning himself. He wiped sweat off of his forehead, finding it was no help as his hands were sweaty, too.

Romeo groaned. "Why is it so hot in here?!"

They heard a knock at the door, looking over to find a very tall guy. Race smiled at him as Romeo smirked.

"Well, now I got my answer", Romeo says aloud, getting up from his seat and walking up to the guy. "Hi."

"Hello", the guy- or Specs, as Romeo now dubbed him- greets the shorter male with a charming smile. "Sorry to interrupt, but I was wonderin' if you knew where Mr. Turner is? The librarian needs to see him."

Romeo smirked, crossing his arms and standing confidently. "No, sorry. I guess I was too blinded by your face."

Race facepalmed, shaking his head. That was so bad, it ain't even funny.

Specs chuckled, nodding his head. He looked Romeo up and down, raising a brow at the jeans and jacket. "Cold, are we?"

"You know", Romeo shrugged nonchalantly. He pulled the jacket closer to him. "They do say opposites attract."

This is adorable, Specs thought as he raised a brow and crossed his arms, a smile on his face. "I guess they do, yeah. But I'd say you're pretty hot yourself, so I'd have to disagree."

Romeo blushed, shaking his head and trying to get rid of it. This was a first. Most people Romeo flirted with either laughed and walked away, or rolled their eyes.

Given, I've only ever flirted with Katherine and a few of the boys, Romeo remembered. And most of the time, they were jokes.

Race looked up with interest.

"If it's anythin' to you", Romeo started, clearing his throat, "I just thought I'd say you look like an angel."

"Thank you", Specs chuckled, checking Romeo out again. "It was hard falling from heaven."

"I bet. Hope you didn't scar your pretty face too bad."

"You really like my face, huh?"

"Maybe."

Specs chuckled. He's cute. Like very cute. Almost impossibly cute. He looked behind him and saw his nebby friend. "Hey, do you think I could speak to your friend? I need to ask him somethin'."

Romeo nodded, already smitten for this guy. "Sure", he replies, calling Race over and walking back to his desk.

Race walked up with his fan and nodded. "'Sup."

"Hi, and what are his favorite flowers?" Specs- or Glasses Guy in Race's mind- looks at Romeo, who was tearing up his paper fan. Race chuckled.

"He likes roses", Race says softly, looking up at Glasses Guy. "He's a bit of a sucker for happy endins'."

Specs chuckled and nodded, taking notes in his head. "His name?"

"Ruben, but we call 'im Romeo", Race answers cooly, placing his hands in his pockets.

"Fitting."

"Ain't it?"

"I'm Samuel."

"Cool."

Romeo almost fell out of his seat, stopping for a second to register what just happened. Samuel chuckled as Race held in his laughter.

"Hey", Samuel says, grabbing the blondes attention again as he steals a sticky note and pen from the teacher's desk. He writes something down, folding it in half. "Could you give this to him from me? I have to get going and find Mr. Turner."

Race smiles, nodding. "Sure. I'll also remind him to text you, or else he'd forget."

Samuel laughed. "He's quite the character."

"You's tellin' me", Race muttered, smiling nicely. "I'll give it to him."

Samuel thanked him and walked out of the room and into the hallway. Race walked back to his desk next to Romeo, wiping sweat off of his brow. "Here. Samuel wanted me to give you this."

Romeo hummed and smiled as he opened the note. "I think I like callin' him Specs."

"Youse ain't even known him for an hour and you's already given him a Newsie name?"

Romeo shrugged, stuffing the note in his pocket. "I can't wait to go home."

Race hummed, trying to get comfortable in his seat again. "Because you's gonna call 'im?"

"No, because I'm hot."
