Mush absolutely hates football.

He could never understand it. The scoring system was confusing, it was always too loud, and the fans were absolute lunatics.

So you could say he wasn't very excited to go to the football game a week before homecoming.

"Maybe you should just go", his friend for ten years, Specs says as they walk out of the school. "It's not like you'll die."

"Gee, thanks, buddy", Mush mutters grumpily.

"I have to agree with Specs", their new friend, David, adds as he places his book bag on his shoulder. "You should try something new."

"Oh, yeah, says you", Mush grumbles, rolling his eyes. "Besides, you guys only want to go because Jack is on the team and Romeo's in the band."

"What if we want to show some school spirit?"

"Davey, you hate this school."

"I disagree-"

"You said, "If I could, I'd set fire to this place with my own matches."

Davey rolled his eyes. Specs laughed and placed a hand on Mush's shoulder. "Point is, you should go. It might be worth your while."

Davey and Specs giggle, leaving Mush to wallow in his own confusion.

They must know something.

—————

They definitely know something.

Mush, Davey, and Specs were inside the school, standing by the boys locker room.

"What are you guys hinting at?" Mush was beginning to feel frustrated. "I don't get it!"

"That's the point, Nicky", Specs says, an amused smirk taking over his lips. "You're not supposed to."

Mush groans and throws his head back. He looks up when he sees the football team coming out of the locker room. Most of them ignore the three boys, with the exception of two.

"Well, since I don't want to be caught up between whatever is about to happen between Javid", Specs sighs, patting Davey's back and smiling. "Bye."

Mush reaches his arms out towards his best friend. "Take me with you!"

Davey and the other two boys laugh.

"Hello, beautiful", one of them says, looking at Davey.

"Francis", Davey smirks, crossing his arms as Jack scowls.

"Oh, yeah", Jack pulls the shorter closer, "you're funny."

"I know, right?" Davey chuckles, putting his arms around Jack's neck. "I feel like it's one of my most unnoticeable qualities."

"I'm going to pretend like I just heard everything you said as I was staring into your eyes."

Davey rolls his eyes and laughs, slapping Jack's chest. "You're hopeless."

"You're ineffable", Jack smiled, lovesick.

"Ooh, big word there."

"I learned from the best."

"If you guys could save us a load of pain and kiss already", Blink interrupts, glaring at both of them, "Mush and I would thank you both."

Jack and Davey roll their eyes as Jack reaches for a kiss. Davey dodges and smirks at his boyfriend's pout.

"After the game", Davey pats his cheek. Jack pouts and rolls his eyes, Davey giving him a kiss on the cheek. "So you'll play well."

"I'll play even better if you kiss me", Jack whines. "It's true."
