CHAPTER 85: Happy Ever After Does Exist

Like a pair of old slippers, I feel comfort and warmth as I slip into her. We tore into each other, as if to wound, as if to find the key to everything before midnight

We've grown more connected with each other ever since we found out we will soon become parent.

I thought we hadn't celebrated getting pregnant, and really wanted our friends and family to be happy for us when we announce the gender of our baby, but most importantly to break the news of our pregnancy, I organized a little barbecue party at our beautiful home without Aaliyah's knowledge. I managed to get her out of the house as early as possible so that the event planners will be able to finish setting up everything

To keep the magic of surprise, I had the ultrasound technician put the result of our baby's sex in an envelope. Even though I was dying to know, I didn't open it. I was determined to keep it a surprise. I couldn't believe I managed to survive this long without knowing.

I arranged for my friend to meet me at the balloon shop, had him open the envelope and pick the color to fill the gender reveal balloon with. He is the only person who knew our baby's sex ahead of time and he prepared two identical balloons filled with confetti

As all our family and friends are gathered to share the surprise of our baby and it's gender reveal, I walked casually to the backyard holding my wife's hand. Upon seeing us, everyone shouted "SURPRISE"

I took in a deep breath, satisfied with the work of the event planners I have hired. I loved the light decoration, it is simple, comfortable and nice. That's what barbecues are all about.

I couldn't help but notice the hanging lanterns and candles in orange peels, freshening up the place with a natural citrusy aroma. Casual laidback chairs and floor cushions with cotton sheets to sit on were placed around the backyard.

We all gathered around the confetti filled balloons and did a countdown from 5. My wife and I were so anxious and excited. Once we popped the balloons covered in question marks, there was an explosion of blue and pink confetti

Then with all the poppers our friends had, blue and pink confetti was flying everywhere, It was amazing. The rest of the crowd present erupts in cheers, but Aaliyah was a bit confused. Seconds later, realization hit her. She dropped to the floor on her knees screaming with joy

The color took almost everyone by surprise. It was both pink and blue, which means we are going to have twins. A boy and a girl

I always accompany Aaliyah to the hospital for her anti natal, but I personally made a request to the doctor, that he should keep the gender of our baby a secret. Not only has he kept it a secret, he has also made the wait worthwhile

I am thrilled beyond measure to have two little babies at a go. We were overjoyed and could not believe that this little miracle growing inside my wife are twins and are going to be ours, We could not be more blessed. Parenthood is truly God's greatest gift.

The evening was young, and the party has just gotten started when a woman in a black hoodie suddenly appeared. She ran to Aaliyah, grabbed her by the neck, almost choking her

I ran to her, and quickly knocked her down. A friend helped me restrain her

"I'll kill you for taking what is mine twice" she threatened my wife, trying to break free

"What?" Aaliyah asked, in terror

"You witch, you took Ammar from me and now you took Saleem. I will end you" The strange lady wearing sun glasses and a face mask screamed out

She turned to look at me, then she continued

"Even after leaving me stranded at the alter, My love for you hasn't changed, not even a bit" And that's when I realized who she is. It's my ex, "Ameerah" who I thought was happily married.
