~There is always some madness in love, But there is also always some reason in madness~

Ammar

Aaliyah, My wonderful wife in cahoots with my friend Kim swept me off to the airport unexpectedly for a seven-day trip to Florence

I was giddy the entire flight, and before I knew it, we were in Florence, about to embark on an experience I will never forget. Not only because I know I would enjoy myself, but because I learned, or was reminded of a valuable lesson: taking time away from work is powerful and rejuvenating.

I probably would have promised to take a half day, but ended up working all day anyway.

Our plane landed in the morning and I had the surprise of my life. I didn't even realise it was my birthday until we reached our destination. On opening the door to the hotel lobby, We heard "SURPRISE" in unison,

Then I saw my friends gathered around a giant cake, singing the happy birthday song, it was simply amazing

"It's going to be Ammars 31st & Fabulous Blind Experience" Kim chimed

31 years old with my 15 best friends from all over Europe joining for a surprise weekend? Not a bad idea

I blew out the candles on the cake and cut it while they cheered and screamed and shouted "hip hip hip hurray" it was just morning, but they have already made my day

After cutting the cake, we said our hello's with so much excitement. I introduced Aaliyah to all of my friends and I was impressed by how well she handled the spotlight. She is a natural

We then decided to go to our rooms and get some rest before the actual party starting at midnight. It has always been a tradition for me and my friends, a party after midnight for each one of us on our birthdays.

I made my way to my room with Aaliyah and Kim trailing behind me. I yanked the door open, and walked into the room.

Putting my hand on the wall, I searched for the light switch. I and Aaliyah found it at the same time. The contact was electric, but she quickly pulled her hand back. When I turned on the light, a warm glow lit up the room.

"Ammar was born on the 14th february, How I wish it was I" Kim said, breaking the silence

"A valentines baby that doesn't know how to Love. How tragic" Aaliyah replied sarcastically, and they both laughed.

But I was not finding it funny, I looked between them, my eyes void of any jokes. Making them go mute all of a sudden

"I want to share a room with Kim" Aaliyah told me, earning herself a glare

"Are you married to Kim?" I asked

She gasped in disbelief, I gave her a flat look and she huff, crossing her arms.

"We are staying in the same room love" I said, pretending as if we were a normal couple in front of Kim

"Make me" she retorted, making her way to the door

But I quickly pulled her towards me, into a hug. Aaliyah felt soft and yielding, her blouse felt soft. Everything about her seemed soft, and she smelled of rose flowers, and strawberries

"Can't you at least pretend we are a normal couple for a few days? Do you have to show everyone that we do not get along?" I whispered into her ears

She eased into the hug and stopped protesting when she heard what I said

Like magic, I felt her getting nearer, felt it like a pull in the pit of my stomach. It felt like hunger but deeper and heavier. Like the best kind of expectation. Ice cream expectation or Chocolate expectation.
