okay, went in a different direction than planned but hope you enjoy!

Keith was looking around the open space around him. There were enemies all around. Between the yelling and crying it was noisy. People were all around, it looked like they were drawing a crowd. In fact, the grumbling front he other side was gaining force and even the breeze had stopped blowing. Shit he needed to move. He needed to make a plan and move forward, direct his people, without second guessing himself. But he felt nervous and as of now even his stomach was starting to hurt. He whipped on his sunglasses, no one needed to see what he was looking at. But, he needed...help.

Fuck.

"DAD!! Uh, I mean coach-they said we suck and we are going to lose!! I don't know if I can bat. I'm nervous."

Keith groaned, why did he say he would coach, again? He looked to his assistant coach, or his wife for help.

Pidge grinned but stepped up to address the dugout of players as well as their son. Raising her voice, she states loudly and clearly for all to hear, "Don't worry about what they are saying, remember we don't listen to trash talk!! We determine our own path!! Besides, Coach here has this covered. He's got a plan." She slaps Keith on the back and arches a brow.

Keith closes his eyes. Honestly, she could be so annoying. Good thing he loved her. Rolling his eyes, he turned to his son, "Don't worry bud, we got this. Let's push past our limits. Go Ultra?"

Drew grinned, "Wow using, combo anime quotes, Dad you really have come a long way!!"

Pidge grinned, "That is right bud!" Kneeling, she continues and whisper to him, "Drew, just do your best. You know we are proud of you no matter what. Win or lose, it's been a great game! Plus after this we are going to the pumpkin patch, so either way it' a win/win."

Drew grinned, and Pidge froze for just a second. Man he looked just like Keith right now. Intense. He was so determined that right now she could see glimpses of what he would be like as a man. Then, he grinned and jumped up to give her a kiss. He ran off to grab his bat and stepped up to the plate. Just like Keith taught him, he took a deep breath, cracked his neck and got into his batting position. Eyes laser focused. Elbow up. Weight centered on his rear leg. Ready.

Keith quickly yelled out instructions to the runners on the base, in code of course, and they got into position. Steal on the first pitch, both runners. Drew was to take a pitch and then swing for the fence after.

Strike.

Pidge knew it killed Drew to take that pitch, but this was a team sport and they needed 3 runs. Runners advance. Good. She could hear the other parents, grumbling but she knew it was the smart play.

She looked over the fans for their side. They were surrounded by family and friends who were cheering and yelling encouragement, drowning out the taunts from the other team. Keith is standing with his baseball book at the first base line while Pidge remained in the dugout. Her other two were with Matt and her parents in the crowd but she could literally hear them cheering on their big brother. Grinning she waited for the next pitch.

Sinker, swing and miss. Strike 2.

He looked nervous. Well Keith did.

Next pitch, ball. She called out "Good eye, buddy."

Next pitch, he made contact but it went foul...but it had the distance.

Ball. Ball.

This was pressure. Part of her hated that it was Drew who happened to be up but at the same time, she knew this was just a little step in his growth. It was now a full count and Drew raised a hand for time. He stepped out of the box and looked to Keith. She knew he wanted to ask, if he should just make contact but he just stared. Keith, tilted his head and Drew smiled.

She knew that look, he just got the all clear to do whatever he wanted. It was going to be his call. He nodded and stepped back into the box. He set up and when the pitch came his way, he swung with all his might. CRACK! The whole team was yelling and jumping, run, run, run. And they all did. Three runs...chalk up the W!!!!!

She looked at Keith who was giving a high five to every member of the team. We shook hands with the other team and got into the last team huddle of the fall ball season. Keith was talking, noting how each team member has grown and contributed to this win. This positivity was something else.

Smiling Pidge couldn't help but think of the difference from Keith when they first met to now. What a transformation, smiling-she thinks...she might just love him more now than ever!
