Cloe stood with her beta, a dark brown pelt known simply as Seraph. She'd been found as an abandoned pup in a human orphanage a few years before Cloe's birth. Cloe's parents had decided to take the little runt in and have the pack healer take care of her figuring the tiny runt would be of some use to the pack someday.

It was a complete surprise when Seraph, who was half the size of the others her same age, took down a full grown black pelt at the age of thirteen. Her battle skills and eagerness to prove she could be more than a healer put her on the fast track to greatness. She'd been a single dominate female already at the age of thirty six and is a prideful and loyal member in Cloe's pack.

Seraph is Cloe's most trusted friend and on occasion bed companion when Seraph decides sleeping alone is less desirable. Cloe's never refused anything Seraph has ever asked for and hoped that day would never come.

"No," Cloe said to Seraph who frowned at her Alpha. "No one can find out that Jack is still alive." She said as she looked away from the words written on the white board Seraph was holding up that said, "But Jack's paid for his crimes."

"I only told you because you can't talk." Seraph's frowned deepened slowly turning into a glare. She turned the board around to erase the message and replace it with. "He's family."

"Seraph," Cloe sighed her name, "Jack's safer far away from Joshua, where his rash behavior and bad habits aren't going to piss him off. He's better off on his own."

"Blood's thicker than water." Seraph wrote out. Cloe looked over to her Beta and shook her head slowly. Seraph frowned and wrote again. "Jack's alive and you're going to abandon him?" Cloe growled and knocked the white board out of Seraph's hand. The board flew across the room and came to a stop by the door.

"Enough!" She snapped her back popping in a few places as Void whimpered, they both struggled to keep the animal down. Seraph took a step back just in case the change happened. Cloe took a few calming breathes and squeezed her eyes shut.

"Just drop it; Jack can take care of himself. He's got plenty of money in reserve and he can always go to the fighting rings, he's a black pelt not many can beat those." Seraph looked conflicted but nodded in agreement and walked away stepping out onto the balcony. Cloe waited a few moments longer before following her.

Joshua hurried down the halls intent with finding Cloe, who'd instructed him earlier in the day to look for the hunter who'd attacked her and took off with that human boy from the Misfits. Logan had spotted her in town just a few minutes ago. Joshua had instructed him to follow the hunter but keep his distance until Cloe was notified. Joshua stepped up to her bedroom door and hesitated.

The look of pain on her face flashed into his mind made him freeze just as his hand grasped the door knob. He stood there for a moment staring at the door and thought back to that moment that he finally came to, when his anger had dissipated enough to take human form again.

The tears on Cloe's face still shook Joshua's resolve.

But the pain he felt at the death of his men was greater and he simply pushed the feeling of regret aside and opened the door. He stepped in and on Seraph's white board, which had been abandoned on the floor. Joshua looked down at it and frowned.

  But only for a moment.

Before the regret that seemed to always linger in his gut vanished,

Two words were visible, with the others hidden under his foot. Those two words invoked a familiar anger that felt good.

Far better than the guilt he's been experiencing.

Those two words made him feel better as the fire was stoked within him and his thoughts turned to one person who had somehow escaped retribution.

  Those two words,

  Jack's alive

Those two words brought the anger back. Cloe be damned, her pain and grief forgotten, those tear streaked cheeks replaced with her brother's smug face as he turned and left the pack home. Bane whined with anticipation, eager to see the sight of blood again so soon; eager to see that brat's death for a second time.

He wouldn't tell Cloe, she could think her brother were alive.

A wicked smile slipped across his face as he walked over to his car.

He was going to have fun killing Jack for a second time.
