Purely Mara's POV enjoy.

It took a bit of testing and moments of certain things being lost in translation but eventually everyone came to the same conclusion.

  Haven had officially lost it.

It was only a matter of time before this kind of life style broke him. He was after all just a normal kid up until Hunter showed up, dragging an angry hunter faction with him.

It had only been a matter of time.

Mara, Karen and Hunter had all already been used to the stress. Mara was raised to be a hunter and kill things, Hunter had lived on his own running for his life since he was little and Karen was a two hundred year old fairy who obviously had a secret agenda.

Mara knew there was something off about Karen, but she’s been loyal so far.

  Well, loyal to Haven.

As long as Haven was safe Karen seemed content. There was something about Karen that Mara simply didn’t trust. But now was not the time to think about that. Haven flopped down on the couch and frowned.

“I can hear them.” He insisted for the hundredth time.

  “Wolves don’t talk.” Lexi said.

“They talk to me!” Haven snapped, his red pelt showing through his usual calm demeanor. It was clear he was more quickly agitated since they’d found him. Though there was a distinct feature that everyone noticed when he lost his temper.

  His eyes,

They’d turn wolf yellow during those out bursts and then he’d take a moment to reign in whatever was going on inside him. It was almost like there was literally another person in there fighting with him.

  It scared Mara.

Haven seemed to be losing his mind to the wolf, slowly but surely Haven was losing some kind of battle inside of him.

“What if Haven’s wolf is female…What if his link is… corrupt?” Mara asked. Jack’s face turned dark as he looked over to Haven.

“Lithium does nasty things to wolves.” He explained. Karen frowned at Jack and crossed her arms.

“Haven’s medicine? He takes it because of his-” She looked over to Haven and took a gulp of air. “Split personality.”

“My what?!” Haven stood up quickly his heart rate picked up.

“The doctors diagnosed you with Dissociative identity disorder when you were seven.” Karen explained. “You’d be you one day and the next you’d be…Well you’d be some kind of monster hell bent on running off into the woods claiming you had to get home. The doctors tried using the usual talk therapy treatments but nothing was working so they just suppressed that side of you with lithium. It’s not what they’d use for that kind of diagnosis but it worked. One of the symptoms to your disorder was…well projecting voices onto objects and people…That could be what’s happening now. You’re adding voices to each of the wolves to cope with what’s happening.”

Haven shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair as he started to pace. Hunter reached out to him but hesitated, Mara saw his hand go up but then quickly return to his side with a clenched fist.

“No, I… I don’t remember anything like that.” Haven argued.

“You never remembered your outbursts.” Karen said sounding hesitant, as if she wasn’t sure if telling Haven was a good idea. “After the treatments started working your parents thought it was best if they just lock away that part of your childhood. You didn’t remember so why bother telling you?”

“Because that’s kind of important to just let slip into the past!” Haven snapped his eyes flashing wolf yellow and his shoulder popping as if the change was coming on. Jack reached out than and touched Haven’s arm. Haven looked over to Jack and an instant calm washed over him. Mara’s eyes widened in shock and herd Hunter take in a quick breath.

“Don’t touch him!” Hunter grabbed Haven and yanked him away from Jack. The tension in the room suddenly rose as Jack and Hunter glared at each other.

“O-Okay everyone, just calm down and relax.” Lexi spoke up, Mara was pretty sure Lexi would attract a light pelt.

  “Don’t touch Haven.” Hunter growled.

“Oh what?” Jack scoffed, “Are you going to lock him up like a porcelain doll?” Hunter frowned at Jack before glancing over to Mara.

  “A what?”

“It’s a toy.” Jack said as he continued to glare at Hunter. Haven pushed Hunter away and crossed his arms.

  “I’m fine.” He insisted.

“I know that.” Hunter argued weakly, “I just…” He trailed off and looked away. Mara shifted her weight and looked over to Jack.

“Are you mated?” Jack shifted his glare from Hunter over to Mara.

“That’s a little personal don’t you think Cupcake?” He asked, “I mean we haven’t even had our first date yet.”

“Just answer the question.” Mara sighed. Jack stared at her for a moment then crossed his arms.

“No, I don’t feel particularly inclined to answer anything.” He said seriously. Mara frowned and looked over to Karen who simply shrugged.

“Why don’t we just go already?” She said instead of teaming up with Mara to get Jack to talk.

“I think it’d be best if you all left as well.” Jack said with a smirk. “You’ve all been nothing but trouble for me and my pack so far.” Haven nodded and looked over to Karen.

“Yeah, we should go home and leave Jack alone to…deal with his own problems.” Jack looked over to Haven and they shared a moment of silent understanding that made no sense to Mara and seemed to only piss Hunter off even more.

Hunter grabbed Haven’s hand and positioned himself between Jack and Haven purposefully. The struggle for Haven’s attention was obvious and confusing. Haven seemed to notice Hunter’s annoyance but wasn’t doing anything to stop showing Jack more attention.

  It was odd.

Haven and Hunter were mates, Hunter’s wolf had howled.

  They were mates.

Love rivalries don’t happen in werewolves. Something was clearly off.

“Hold on,” Mara spoke up when her pack moved to leave. “Haven, did Fury howl when you saw Hunter?” Haven looked over to her and frowned.

“What? Why would she do that?” Haven’s response brought a whole new atmospheric tension in the room.

Two wolves had to howl for the bond of mates to be complete. Haven’s wolf didn’t howl for Hunter.

  They weren’t mates.
