Unit 0526

Jihoon examined the door of the apartment unit. It was an ugly blue with rust developing on the corners. No wonder no one wanted to live there. He was trying to feel the energy from the ghost but the radiation was drastically changing, from high to low to middle. It was a bit confusing but Jihoon knew that any sign of high energy meant danger.

Just then, Jihoon heard footsteps echoing through the hallways of the apartment, like the clicking of heels. With a ghost in mind, he turned around, only to see the landlord coming up to him, walking elegantly, wearing a long blue skirt.

“This is it? An average person? You're not equipped with heavy gear or something?” The landlord lady asked, her head tilting to the side a little. She was holding a bag of dog treats and her hair was cut into a short bob. She was a bit petite but also looked quite young.

Jihoon sighed, though by now, he should have been used to this. Everyone always assumed that he would be wearing some sort of ‘Ghostbusters’ suit and have a vacuum that sucked up ghosts, but that was not it. Jihoon wasn't a Ghostbuster.

To him, he was like the human grim reaper, but instead, he was getting rid of ghosts and bringing them across the bridge to the spirit realm. He was a gifted man who was using his gifted powers to get rid of ghosts who have unfinished business or don't want to leave.

Jihoon could see ghosts and interact with them at a certain time he called the golden hour. Right now, at this very moment, he could feel so much regret, sadness, and longing, just from outside the haunted unit. Those emotions were strong.

However, Jihoon could only see ghosts at a specific time, which was at 7 pm. Once the clock struck 8 pm he would become nothing but an ordinary human again. Some may say this was a blessing since he wouldn't have to deal with seeing ghosts, or a curse if ghosts that he fails to send away come looking for him.

Jihoon looked down at his watch, strapped onto his wrist. It wasn't any fancy watch, just convenient and affordable. The hand of the clock ticked. The clock had just struck 7.

“I'll try to finish up in an hour,” Jihoon turned to the landlady, ignoring her comments earlier about ghost hunting. “Can you describe what made you think there's a ghost in this unit again?”

The landlady crossed her arms and took a long stare at the door. There was a long silence. Jihoon was slowly losing his patience, waiting for the woman to reply as every minute of the golden hour was precious.

Finally, she said with an annoyed sigh, “Whenever I pass by this unit, I feel a whiff of cold air follow me, it gives me chills every time. Also, sometimes, in the middle of the night, I'd hear banging coming from this very door, when of course, no one lives here,” The landlady was now speaking somewhat enthusiastically, making Jihoon wonder whether or not she was telling the truth. She sounded way too excited. “Hmm, what else...? Oh, yeah, I also had sleep paralysis three times. Each time, I saw someone, I don't know who they are though. They just kept asking me if I saw their husband...”
