You took in a deep breath, staring down at the skateboard beneath your feet as you traveled around the skate park smoothly.

The afternoon sun was shining brightly, making the skate park look extra smooth as it shone down. The sound of your skateboard wheels rolling against the steady surface of the skate park was a sound that you liked. It was calming to your ears yet gave your heart and body a feeling of so much thrill.

You sucked in another deep breath. The wind blew gently against your face, causing your hair to fly backward. ‘It's a beginner trick… I can do it, just like Minghao.’ you thought to yourself.

You pushed the skateboard with your right foot and you drifted toward an empty area, your left foot at the nose of the skateboard.

There seemed to be no one else at the skate park as there used to. You closed your eyes and let out a deep breath. You cheered yourself on in your head, making your skateboard come to a stop by placing your right foot on the floor.

After a few seconds of chanting words of encouragement inside your head, your eyes opened, only seeing the curvy and smooth skate park. You pushed your skateboard gently, placing your right foot near the end of the skateboard.

Bravely, you popped the tail of the skateboard, you and the skateboard jumped into the air. Your arms were out and you tried to gently kick the nose of the skateboard so that it would flip while you were in the air.

It was quick and you were able to brush your left foot against the top of the skateboard, but the board did not flip as you expected. Your feet landed at the sides of your skateboard, causing you to lose balance and fall onto your side, hitting the hard floor.

“Hey! Idiot, what the hell are you trying to do!?” It was Minghao's concerned voice. You sat up to see that your skateboard had plummeted right in front of you.

You could hear Minghao's skateboard edge closer. You turned and Minghao picked up his skateboard, walking to you instead.

He crouched beside you and took your hands into his. He examined your arms, his delicate and gentle touch making every pain seem to fade. You looked up at your anxious friend, he seemed so genuine.

“Are you dumb?? Why aren't you wearing any knee pads, elbow pads, helmets…?” He asked helping you up.

You dusted off the specks of dirt from your clothes.

“They look ugly,” you replied.

That was just an excuse you made right off the moment. Truthfully, you had forgotten them at home because you were too excited to go boarding.

Minghao laughed. “It's not a matter of fashion. If you want to skateboard then wear protective gear.”

He took off his dark helmet, it reflected the light from the sun, and he placed the helmet onto your head. He examined your elbows even further.

“I'm fine, Hao. If I don't get hurt, I'm never going to perfect the kickflip.” You told Minghao, brushing off your elbows. In fact, you did feel a few scratches and lingering pain in your hip, but decided not to say. ‘Kickflip’ was the name of the trick you were trying to do.

Minghao clipped the helmet onto your head, you avoided looking at his face. “Don't even think of doing the kickflip until I come back. I have an extra pair of knee pads and elbow pads for you.”

You nodded but your head was already thinking about your previous attempt, what you did wrong, and how you could improve the next time.

Minghao pinched your cheeks to get your attention.

“Hey! Minghao!” You said, finally looking up at his face. He looked rather serious.

“Wait until I come back before you try again, okay?” Minghao said. You finally looked up into his eyes, his hands still pulling onto your cheek gently.
You gave him a soft smile and nodded. “Fine, I won't.”

Minghao shot you a smile back, leaving his skateboard behind as he quickly went to his car. After seeing him walk away and not look back, you knew that it'd be a while before he came back.

The looked at your own shadow, knowing that you were probably going to get hurt again. You took your skateboard and looked around to make sure that Minghao wasn't looking.

Quietly, you began to skateboard, warming up so that you could possibly succeed in executing the kickflip.

Minghao closed the doors of his car, holding a helmet and knee and elbow pads, along with a pair of rubber gloves. He saw you at the skatepark, the sun shining brightly, making him only able to see your figure.

“Gosh…” He muttered quietly, jogging into the skatepark. “I knew it.”

You jumped into the air, kicking the nose of the skateboard gently making it flip. You were so close, now all you had to do was land on the skateboard. The kickflip was a quick trick so even if you succeeded or failed, Minghao would have no idea.

You were able to land your right foot on the skateboard but your left foot only made it onto the edge of the skateboard, making you lose balance immediately. The skateboard slid away and you fell backward, only to be surprisingly caught.

“I saw everything you dummy.” Minghao grabbed your hands and slid the rubber gloves in your hands. His voice was unbothered like he expected everything. “If I wasn't here, you would have fallen flat on your bottom and would've also scratched your hands.”

You chuckled. “I'm more than fine, Hao.”

You reached for your skateboard. Sometimes your friend, Minghao, could just be so overprotective. It made you wonder why he was like that.

“Did you really think I wouldn't know? We're friends for a reason.” He giggled to himself while sliding in the elbow pads around your arms.

You watched him carefully, analyzing his beautiful eyes, nose, and hair as he gave you the elbow pads and knee pads. He was a great friend.

“Now you can try the trick again. I'll just rock around in the park.” Minghao said, fastening his helmet around his head.

You watched as Minghao took his skateboard to the top edge of the park. There was a moment of silence.

He glided through the slanted skating park, turning corners and rising back up on the curves. The orange-ish-like sunlight made him look like he was glowing.

You smiled, your rubber-gloved hands gently rubbing against each other. You looked at him in admiration. Every trick he did and just him skating in general made your eyes sparkle with fascination and your heart thump.

He was so cool.
