You almost spit out your drink when you heard your best friend say what sounded like complete nonsense.

Wonwoo, your best friend, just stared at you coldly as you wiped your mouth with a napkin while coughing.

“What? Are you kidding me? You've never been on a date?” You asked in disbelief. It seemed like utter nonsense! Your best friend was probably the dream guy of every other girl, yet he's never been on a date.

You two were walking back to your house and talking, passing by various houses, shops, and cars. The wind was nice and breezy, the sun was bright and dazzling, glittering the small brown puddles that lay at the sides of the road.

You ran your fingers through your hair, still surprised. Then, you abruptly stomped your feet on the sidewalk. It all just didn't make sense. You shook your head while grabbing the straw of your coffee.  “I mean, I expected you to have gone on at least ONE date without me knowing.”

Wonwoo chuckled softly and looked at you, who was now sipping coffee from your straw.
“Is it really that surprising?” Wonwoo asked, his hands in his pockets.

You turned to your best friend and nodded. “So very surprising. I mean, you've gotten asked out before, right? How come you've never been on a date?”

“Did you forget?” Wonwoo replied, lifting his head to face the baby blue sky with beautiful clouds that looked a bit like hearts.

You nodded, but not because you agreed with Wonwoo, but because you remembered the reason why he had never gone on a date before. You clapped your hands and replied, “You rejected every single person that came your way.”

You looked over at Wonwoo only to find no one walking beside you. You turned slightly and looked back, finding Wonwoo paused in the middle of the street, his eyes gently closed, his head facing the sky. For a second, you felt butterflies in your stomach, but that quickly faded.

You turned around fully so that the two of you were standing face to face. You crossed your arms, still holding your plastic cup of coffee in your hand.

“Why did you reject them though?” You asked, breaking the moment of silence that passed through.

“I don't know. I guess I just didn't like them.”

Wonwoo still didn't look at you. His eyes were still shut and he was still frozen, like a standing emoji.
You sighed and positioned yourself against the black streetlamp, bringing your plastic cup of coffee to your face. You took a short sip.

“Okay, so, why are you telling me this? No, why did you bring it up in the first place?” You asked, genuinely curious.

Wonwoo never really talked about people he liked. In fact, you don't think he ever did, thinking back on it. Did he even like anyone romantically? You began to wonder while staring in his direction.

Wonwoo opened his eyes and lowered his head to see your face. A shy smile appeared on his face. He adjusted his nerdy glasses and then replied, “I want to go on a date.”

You almost spit out your coffee again.

“A date with who?”

“You.”

This time, you began to choke on your coffee. Wonwoo quickly came to you and patted your back.

After you stopped choking, you stood up straight and stared at Wonwoo, analyzing his expression. “You're kidding, right? You want to go on a date with me?”
