Lunch time. I bet there's a lot of new students who haven't succeeded in making friends yet either. I smiled at the thought of making a new friend in here. I bought my lunch, then frowned once I turned over to face the whole cafeteria, my tray in my hands as I spotted the full lunch tables.

My eyes scanned the whole room to find somewhere to sit. Most of the tables were full except for a few empty tables that no one sat at. I frowned.

Elena sat at a table that was packed with all of the popular kids in our grade. I had no chance to even sit there and try to talk to her. I took a seat at an empty table by myself and quietly picked at my food. Nothing upset me more than being alone in a room full of people. Everyone else was talking and laughing except for me.

When lunch was over, I walked into the hallway and saw Elena walking towards her locker. I decided I finally had a chance to walk up to her and say something.

"H-Hey Elena," I smiled and she looked over at me, smiling small and then back over to her locker.

"Hey Stella."

"So I heard you're having a party tonight?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Oh yeah, I'm inviting all sixth graders to my house tonight." She told me as she retrieved a few books from the top shelf in her locker.

"Oh wow, that's gonna be a lot of people at your house." I laughed lightly.

"I know. But I have a really big house. It should fit everyone." she smiled then shut her locker. "Well, I better get going. See you later." Then she walked away.

I was jealous of how fortunate Elena was. She was popular, nice, and had a huge house and wealthy family. Everything I wanted.

The next class was probably the only good part of the day. Language Arts class. The teacher introduced herself as Mrs. Lea, and she was really nice and straightforward. We had writing journals specifically just for writing in once every Friday. We had to write about our feelings and opinions on a certain topic. I knew I would be good at this.

"Alright class, today's topic is about yourself, literally. I want you to write about why you are unique and why it's a great thing to just be yourself." she explained then sat back at her computer desk.

I thought it was kind of funny how this topic comes up now. I wasn't sure what I even admired about myself. All I could think about is how much I admired someone else, and how much I wished I had her life instead.

It took all period of us just writing, but while we were writing, Mrs. Lea was explaining what we would be doing this year. I enjoyed this class very much. It was last period but at least I have something to look forward to.

We waited for the bell to ring, and I heard a bunch of girls talking about Elena's party tonight.

"It's gonna be so much fun."

"How many people do you think are gonna be there?"

"I can't wait to see her house."

I thought to myself, should I go to the party, too? What would I wear? Will my mom take me? I was thinking all of these things as the bell finally rang and everyone began rushing into the hallways.

"Do you know when Elena's party is tonight?" I asked some random girl walking next to me, who I recognized from one of my classes.

"8:30 to 10:30 tonight." She replied.

When I got home, I was greeted by my dad sitting on the sofa in front of the TV like usual. My mom wouldn't be home until later on, so I'll ask her if she can drop me off at Elena's house. Maybe if I do show up, I'll seem cooler and people will want to be friends with me. Or, I can talk to Elena more.
