Enmity Chapter Twelve - A New Friend
"No." I replied, my voice shaking. His facial expression changed to disappointment. "No..? What do you mean 'no'?"
"I mean no, Dylan, I can't be your girlfriend."
"Wh-Why not?" He asked, his voice breaking.
"I'm sorry.." I said, causing his eyes to water. I felt my heart break a little as he quickly sniffed and wiped the tears away. "I-It's alright. I'd never have stand a chance anyway. I hope this doesn't make our friendship awkward." He forced a smile.
I felt tears trickle down my cheeks. My best friend -my partner in crime- for 8 years now, was actually crying because of me.
"I'm very sorry, Dylan. I just don't have that sort of attraction towards you." I truthfully told him. I mean, better to tell him now than give him false hope and hurt him even more next time right?
"I do get it.. Go." He said, wiping more tears away. I must've looked as confused as I felt because he went on and said, "I know you like Thomas. Go find him."
I nodded, before rushing off. Then, I stopped and looked back. He looked so broken. I ran back to him and gave him a huge hug. "I do love you, Dylan.. But as a friend."
He hugged me back instantly. "I know. Now go get him, Mimi. He's waiting."
Right. New task. Finding Thomas.
I immediately called him. It rang and rang. Just when I was about to hang up, his voice filled the other line. "Hello?" He hoarsely said.
"Thomas! Thank god, you're okay!" I exclaimed, happy that he picked up.
"Of course I am. What do you think I'll do? Go jump off a building just because you got a boyfriend?" He replied harshly. Ouch. Hurtful much?
"Okay, okay. Where are you now?" I asked, desperate to see him again.
"None of your business," he retorted, hanging up to me. He was being so dramatic. I mean, I don't get why he got so agitated.
I sighed, running my hand through my hair. I was currently in the middle of nowhere, trying to find him.
"Ariel? What are you doing here?" I whipped my head around, only to find a smiling Wiggly looking down at me. "My name is Jamie, you know."
"I know, but I'm still gonna call you Ariel." He replied. I rolled my eyes, "Okay, whatever floats your boat."
"Someone's cranky." He commented, smiling even wider. "And someone's gloating over my misery," I shot back, crossing my arms. He must've sensed that I was not in a joking mood, because he took a step forward and placed his hand on my shoulder. "Hey, you okay?" He asked gently.
"What does it look like, dumbass?"
"Look, I'm trying to be nice to you but you're making it so damn hard.." He shook his head, walking away.
"I'm sorry, okay? I've just had a very.. Eventful day. And your friend, Thomas, is pissed at me for I don't know whatsoever reason. There, I said it. Happy now?" I blurted out.
"Thomas?" He furrowed his eyebrows, "he doesn't get angry much. What did you do?"
"Nothing!" I exclaimed, offended. First, he told me to tell him and when I did, he accused me of doing something terrible? "Whatever, okay? Think whatever you want. Bye." Now, it was me who walked away. He quickly grabbed hold of my hand.
"Ariel! Stop struggling. I believe that you didn't do anything!" He yelled as I struggled to break free from his iron grip.
"And I'm sorry for even thinking you'd do something terrible. I'm also terribly sorry for our crappy meeting. And sorry for breaking your key-" he said it all in one breath before I cut him off.
"Will. How many sorry's are you going to give? I forgive you for every single little thing you did wrong. Okay?" I said.
"You called me Will!" He grinned childishly, making me smile as well.
"Yeah, well, your name is Will, isn't it?" I shrugged, trying to act like it was no big deal, but the big grin on my face gave me away. It felt good to smile like that again.
"You smiled! Ariel, smile more. It looks good on you." He exclaimed happily.
I laughed, before getting serious. "We've had a rough start to our.. Almost friendship. Shall we start over? I'm Jamie Rose Evans, also known as Ariel."
"Hey, Ariel. I'm William Jack Poulter, also known as Wiggly."
"I'm glad we're friends." We said in unison.
