No, no, no, no, no!

Leila clumsily fumbled the phone as she tried to disconnect the call. It landed face down on the rug. She froze and stared at the back of her case.

This can't be happening.

"Hello?" The voice called out making her jump. She picked the phone up from the floor and quickly hung up the call.

If it wasn't because she saw his face she would've thought she was imagining things.

Her heart was beating out of her chest. She was in literal shock. She gripped her phone tightly hoping that it would stop the shaking in her hands. A mixture of emotions brewed together. Shock was the first one, then very quickly came red hot anger.

Had he actually had the balls to call her after two whole years?

Hey Lei.

Hey Lei? That's the first thing he had the audacity to say to her after what he did?

Then, Mia began banging her toys together from her play pen causing the most intense of all the emotions to resonate with Leila.

Fear.

What if he had found out about Mia?
No, there's no way.

Leila was always careful. She never posted photos of Mia online and she never allowed anyone else to do so either. Yet the fear that he had called her because he wanted to take away her daughter took permanent residency in her heart.

"Well tough shit." She mumbled while pacing the small space of her living room. Mia was her daughter, not his. She had carried Mia for nine months, she was the one up late at night when Mia was colicky or sick. Leila fed her and clothed her. She didn't have him to share the burden with and in turn she would never share Mia with him.

How dare he?!

Suddenly, the front door handle began to turn and for a moment Leila thought it could've been him coming to steal her baby away. When Lizzy came through the door Leila released a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding.

"Sorry I'm late. I had to stop for gas." Lizzy placed her purse on the small table by the door and took off her jacket. She eyed Leila carefully who was standing in the middle of the living room wide eyed with a hand over her chest. "You okay there? You look like you've seen a ghost."

Leila dropped her hand from her chest and walked over to Lizzy. She pushed her phone into Lizzys hand. "H-he called." Leila stepped back and picked Mia up from the play pen. It was more for her benefit than Mia's; she needed to feel her close to her.

Liz stared down at the phone, confused. "Who called?"

"Him." Leila bounced Mia on her hip anxiously.

"Who's him?"

"Him!" She repeated, her eyes wildly darting between Mia and Liz.

Liz continued to stare down at the phone trying to decipher what Leila was trying to tell her. It wasn't until her own eyes fell on Mia that she was able to put it all together. She pointed the phone to her niece. "Him?"

"Yes!" Leila put Mia back down in the play pen. She immediately started whining, raising her arms so someone would pick her up again.

"He who must not be named?" Liz asked for clarification. Leila placed a hand over her forehead and nodded.

Leila had forbidden Lizzy from ever mentioning his name in her presence. She wanted no memory of him. They just pretended he didn't exist.

"You're fucking joking!" She unlocked Leila's phone and went into her call log . The last number to call her began with an eight-two and said it came from South Korea.
