Ectumus sits down in his office chair. On his desk is a map of Htrae, marked with strategies of how to invade. He grabs the map at the two top corners, and rips it in half, the tattered line growing in the middle, as it finally parts in two with a "SNAP!"
He's so tired.
"Why'd I tell that to the kid?" He thinks out loud. "She's the type of girl who's bound to defeat me. Got that hero's look in her eyes. Now all I'm doing is causing her more pain."
He saw the fresh scars on her face. Pyro's the type who would jump off a bridge if she was dared to. The dangerous type of stupid.
"What even happened to Ellie if she would stoop so low as to adopt a demon?" He said to no one. "Demons always die young."
The more Ectumus thinks about this, the sadder he gets. He cares about Pyro after all. She's a remnant of a time gone by. A quieter place in life.
Taking a deep breath, he picks up his phone and dials a number engraved into his head.
Ring. Ring.
"Ecti! How's life?"
"Hi Silvi, uh, not great right now."
"Oh...You invaded Htrae already?"
"Yep."
"Hecc, I had an ad campaign running there in two months!" The woman on the other end laughs.
"Hah, sorry."
"Your...wife lives there, right?"
"Ex-wife. And she's not living anymore."
"Oh! Nice! Car crash? Cancer? How'd she—"
"I killed her, Silvia."
"...Ohhhhhh..! Now I see why life's 'not great'."
"...Yeah."
"Well, how'd ya kill her? I wanna hear every disgusting detail."
"No details, buddy. Broke her ribs...Pinch of DICORE...Screamed and died." Ectumus stares at the ground like he always did when he was sad. "I...uh...left...advertising for my services on her body, you'll be glad to hear that."
"DICORE? The poison detergent that you tried to sell me as a joke one time?" Silvia cackles over the phone.
"Yeah."
"Your consumers are gonna drop like flies, y'know."
"It's not made for you Terrian plebs. It's for demons, slime, and ghosts."
"Ghosts! I wonder if Ellie's doing her laundry right now."
"Too soon, Silvia. Too soon."
"Oof."
"Well, I mean this problem you have is why you haven't cracked under the power you have, right?" Ectumus assures.
"Thanks." Silvia says.
A noise from the other end screams through the speakers, calling for a "Ms. Sullivan".
"Oh, sorry, Kyle from Accounting needs to see me, I just set up a new project. I gotta go now."
"Bye!"
Ectumus hangs up.
"Kyle from Accounting is such a worrywart." Ectumus chuckled to himself.
