I was teetering on the edge of a great chasm, trying my best to balance on the edge. I inched along, forgetting what I was trying to do. My eyes narrowed, trying to see the bottom. I saw a lake at the bottom of the ravine, and aiming carefully, I was about to jump, when somebody pushed me off, in a direction far from what I intended.
Spinning around in mid-air, I saw several people without eyes waving down at me. They got farther and farther away, as I braced for impact. I was sure I was going to die. I could smell my own blood that would be spattered on the ground below. My heart raced, and I prepared, the end drawing near.
But almost as I was about to reach the stone floor beneath, I was caught by familiar arms. I turned my head to see Diamond Girl looking down at me. Not with her uncovered face, just a hard shell, blocking it. It was still nice to see her here, as fear from being on the edge of life or death simmered away.
"You still don't know how to swim, do you?" She joked.
"Nope," I chuckled back.
"You were almost demon meatloaf on the ground, why'd you jump?"
"Somebody pushed me!" I exclaimed.
"But you were still about to jump anyway, weren't you? If I wasn't here, what would you have done? But even so, if you weren't here, what would I have done?" She puzzled, not giving a chance for me to answer.
I could only stare up at her, and watch her stoney chrysalis glimmer in the setting sun.
"Listen," she said urgently. "You might face some struggle soon. Struggle on all four sides. But you have to remember that I will be with you. Not only to tell you what you need to hear, but to save your life when you need me to."
"Why?" I ask. "I'm not that special, am I?"
"No," she said, a little too blunt. "But no matter how old you grow, you will always have scars that need to heal. Though I'm not happy with how you're acting so far, you still need someone to light the fire for the pheonix."
"You'll be there whenever I need?"
"Until someone else can make you feel just as safe, at least."
She threw me into the air, raising her arms, as I floated upward, and the world shifted sideways.
"Wait! I want to stay!" I screamed back at the Diamond Girl, who looked more like an ant now. I tugged and grasped at the air.
"I'll be back! Just don't fall off another cliff while I'm gone!"
I stared back at the growing-distant girl, wirh tears in my eyes, and cloak in the wind. I didn't want to leave her! I wanted to talk to her more, hug her again. I could barely see her, as I was only looking over blurry fields, mountain ranges, and forests. Clouds occasionally blocked my vision, until I could see no more.
And then, with rolling tears, I woke up.
