“I understand that.” I said almost harshly. I stood up and paced back and forth on the carpeted floor.

Sage cleared his throat and sat on the chair as he watched me warily. “I’m afraid that we need to have Emma see Lady Madoka, immediately.”

I stopped pacing and gaped at what he said. “See her?” I echoed.

“Yes. That is what she advised. Besides, when I mentioned that we must have found the right one, she started talking.” He frowned.

I was taken aback by that. “She talked voluntarily.” That was more of a statement than a question. That’s…rare. No, it never happened like that before. Lady Madoka cannot even be forced to talk or acknowledge anyone, not even my stupid brother. She had this guy who speaks for her as if she doesn’t have a mouth of her own.

Sage nodded his head as if mirroring my thoughts. “Yes, it’s very peculiar to see her like that. She wanted to see her with her own eyes.”

I snorted. “If she wanted to see her, then she can go to her. We don’t have to risk that stupid fairy’s life by getting her through this hell.” I said bitterly.

Sage smiled wryly and rolled his eyes playfully at me. “Geez, you don’t have to flaunt your overprotective lover mode to me. I know that.”

I glared at him but he acted unaffected. “Why was it so important for her to see Emma?” I asked instead.

“She said that Emma can help us with the curse.” He stated solemnly.

“I know that. That’s why she’s dragged into this! She helps us with the curse--!” I huffed.

“That’s not what I mean.” he cut in.

“What then?” I asked angrily though I bet he knows it’s not directed to him.

“She is the key to the curse.” I stared at him as though he somewhat said something repulsive. “In exchange for the curse to be lifted, Emma’s soul should be sacrificed.”

After he said that, it felt like all air was being drenched off of my lungs and the world started to crash down on me…on us. All hope vanished with just thirteen freaking words.

“No.” I muttered breathlessly, cursing. I gripped on the table beside me for support and clutched my still damp hair.

Damnit.

This cannot happen. No, it’s impossible! After all the work we’ve put through this…this hell, another life must be sacrificed for all of our freedom! All of the time I thought we’re near freedom…it slowly escaped out of our grasps.

Like right now…and I cannot even do anything about it.

Now, Emma must die to free us all.

“Raven.” Sage called my name as though trying to pull me back to sanity.

I shook my head vigorously.

“It’s all my fault, Sage.” I grumbled angrily. I brushed my hair with my fingers, frustrated. I really want to pull my hair out as if that could do the trick to vanish my anger.

“Ever since she met me, her life has been in constant danger. She is risking her life, her every breath, since she became part of this…part of my hell. I didn’t expect this, hell, I never thought this would backfire on me; she’s going to die because of me! Knowing her, she’ll do it just to free us and she won’t give a damn if she dies. She’s that crazy, Sage! She’ll die!”

“Raven, calm down. It’s not your fault. This is our fate.” He said, coaxing me.

Unshed tears started to linger at the corner of my eyes but I forced it inside. I cannot bare my weakness now; not here.
