Chapter Thirty-three- There is always something for you, right?

Start from the beginning

What was Emma doing in there? She doesn’t look like herself. She’s…

I shook my head and head out of the bathroom. I dried myself and got into clean clothes.

I sat on the bed and stared at my empty hand.

I touched her cheek and it felt so real. Her warmth…

I forced my eyes shut and tried to argue with myself. No, Grayson. You cannot dwell over this matter every single time! I don’t even understand what is happening to me. I have dreams of her like that over the past month ever since I left her.

In the dream, I was in a dark place and suddenly I see her standing, with her back to me. I know it is her because her existence itself is etched into my mind like it’s supposed to be there. The cold air is flipping her hair behind her and she is standing stoically.

I call for her and she slowly glanced back at me with a blank look on her face. I walk to her and see her deep green eyes, void of emotion. Her paled face, as though drained of blood looks hollowed.

I desperately tried to reach up to her and eventually I succumbed, touching her cheek. She blinks slowly like she always does when I hold her and it’s like we were where we should be.

Then I ask her something and she starts to walk away. No matter what I ask, she walks away, leaving me.

It haunts me; seeing her leave like that, it was like a part of me was lost.

I don’t understand!

I shook my head as I buried it into my palms, hoping the memory subsides. It doesn’t.

The door opened and someone, probably Gareth, must’ve been knocking on the door for a time now. I heard footsteps and waited for Gareth to say something like the eggs have cracked or something repulsive like that. But instead, I heard something that somehow makes me want to roll over in bed and take a nap.

“Hello there, kiddo.”

I glanced up and saw Sage standing beside the bed with a I-really-am-here kind of look. I sighed and stared at the floor blankly.

“You’re late.” I pointed out.

He sat next to me and the bed dipped beside me. “It appears so.” He said with a sigh. “Having a tough week?” he asked.

I snorted. “More like a tough month.” I answered humorlessly.

There was silence as either of us tried to contain our grief over the predicament.

“Schemed something useful?” I teased him as I stretched out.

Sage chuckled and walked to the mirror and tried to mime Bryce’s buff way of saying. “Always.”

I laughed at him and threw him the pillow, which he swiftly dodged, the old fart that he is.

He waved his hand in the air as he started laying out our resources. “I took a visit to Lady Madoka’s castle to get some useful information and have some of her knowledge to help us out.” I snorted at this. Knowledge? Oh please.

Sage watched me with a reprimanding look and clicked his tongue. “Well, it seems what we are trying to achieve is harder than I thought.” He proclaimed like it was a normal thing.

I shot up and stared at him wide-eyed. “You don’t mean that…It’s impossible?” I whispered.

Sage shook his head. “No. It’s probable but…”

“But?”

He sighed. “If you are going to be proclaimed as the next heir, then we need to hurry.”
