CHAPTER 36

Carter's p.o.v

"What do you mean he's been collecting the bodies? What the hell does he want with them?" I asked angrily as I combed my fingers through my hair with a tired and frustrated look on my face.

"From the intel our spies could gather, he's planning on making something that could stop the whole reincarnation process and keep your souls at a particular spot, I think he's planning on taking your souls to damnation, if he succeeds, he gets to watch you and Kendra suffer for all eternity while having enough life source to keep him alive forever" Andrew said as he paced around the room.

"So, what the fuck are we supposed to do about this? We need to find him before the cops do and at least render him powerless, have we found the artefact yet?" I asked as I stood up and paced.

"No, we haven't found the artefact yet, but when we do find it everything will go smoothly for us, especially now that we know his location" Andrew said as I shook my head in anger.

That bastard deserved to die, after all the years of suffering he's caused Kendra and I, he deserved worse.

I writhed in anger as I felt my phone ring. I looked at the number and saw that it was Aria.

"What the fuck did you do to Kendra" she yelled as I picked it up, not even giving me a chance to speak.

"Ari..."

"You no good asshole, speak up right now, did you cheat on her? Tell me huh?" she said interrupting me.

"Ari listen..."

"No, you fucking listen, how dare you hurt my friend, I thought you guys meant a lot to each other, how could you do whatever it was you did to her? What happened to you guys huh? You guys were fine till she ended up in the hospital, so what the hell did you say to her that's making her this way?" she yelled in one breath.

"Will you let me fucking speak" I yelled into the line.

"We just had a minor disagreement, but everything will be fine Ari, I promise, I swear I would never hurt Kendra intentionally, she means too much to me for me to let that happen." I said as I ran my hands through my hair sadly.

"Good" she said as she sighed in relief.

"Now get your sorry ass over here and apologise and make up already" she said as she hung up the phone.

As the line went dead, I thought of everything that Kendra and I had been through and as much as I didn't want to admit it, she was right, I had been overly selfish this whole time, I never imagine what it was like for her after I left, I never even considered the fact that she had to watch me get killed over and over again.

I didn't want this, but I started wondering if it would be better for me to stay away from her, she may have a better life with me gone, and with someone else she wouldn't have to worry about dying or a curse.

I sighed as I thought to myself, all this won't matter if we cannot break the curse first.

"I'll be heading back, do inform me if you find anything on the artefact." I said to Andrew as I grabbed my coat and turned to leave.

"Carter, I don't know what happened with you and Kendra, but what I do know is that you shouldn't leave her alone, especially now more that ever" he said as I nodded my head and started walking out the door.

"You don't understand Carter" he said as I stopped in my tracks.

"What do you mean?" I asked as I turned around to face him.

"I mean she doesn't have much time left, she might not last the week Carter" he said as I walked towards him and grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt angrily.

"What do you mean" I said as I glared at him, spitting out every word.

"I heard her man, I heard the sound of her heart beating, I usually go and check on her to see how she's doing, she never sees or notices me, but I'm always there, and the last time I saw her I could clearly hear the faint sound of her heart pumping, as the blood rushed out of her heart man, at the rate she's at she's not going to last much longer" he said as I let go of his scruff and gasped loudly.

I took one last look at him as I ran out the door and out the building. I ran into my car as quickly as I could, throwing my coat at the passenger seat.

I slid into the seat as I quickly switched on my engine and started the car. I felt so many emotions run by me as I hit the gas pedal and sped down the road.

I couldn't lose her again, not yet, it's too early. I sped down the road with so many thoughts running through my mind as I remembered the first time I saw her.

Flashback

Khufu

I sat down in the thrown room as the music played and the girls danced around us trying to liven the mood.

Today we were celebrating the arrival of the high priestess Chay-ara, I had yet to see her, but everyone far and wide had spoken of her beauty.

"Announcing the high priestess Chay-ara" I heard them announce as the curtains spread wide open and a very beautiful lady, looking like a goddess walked in.

She walked gracefully into the room as all eyes were focused on her.

I watched as she stood in the middle of the room and went down in a gesture to greet us.

"Greetings your Majesty" she said remaining in her position.

"Well, if it isn't the High priestess Chay-ara, so nice of you to come help us in our time of peril. You have travelled far and wide to get here and we welcome you to our Kingdom" Father said.

"Thank you, your Majesty," she said as I watched her every movement.

"take of your veil" Father commanded as I felt myself leaning forward in an effort to get a good look at her face, she already looked so good with her veil on, so I couldn't help but wonder how she would look without it. I leaned a bit forward staring at her without a trace of emotion on my face as I saw her lift her veil off.

I almost lost my balance as I saw her, she was indeed a beauty like the rumours says, but I fear she was far more beautiful than I expected, she had innocent eyes and a cute face, and I couldn't help but get lost in them.

I stared at her unashamedly as her eyes rose up and they met mine directly, I smirked at her as I openly checked her out, she was indeed pleasing to the eyes.

"This is my son Prince Khufu Maat khat-er and he will be in charge of you here as well as the High priest Hath-Seth. Your jobs are to ensure that the falling rocks do not become a problem for my people in the future" Father said as I stood up from my seat and walked over to them.

"I have heard so much about you high priestess" I said while smiling flirtingly at her.

"Your highness" she said in a sweet angelic voice as she bowed to me and rose back up staring at me deeply in my eyes.

Flashback over

I stopped the car in despair at the side of the road as I came out of the car and yelled out at no one in particular.

I screamed my heart out as I fell on my knees, crying at the horrible fate that had befallen my love and I.

It was such a horrible thing, both of us only being together for a short while, only for the both of us to die every lifetime.

What was the point of this? We never did anything to deserve this.

I looked at the night sky in pain as I stared at the heavens, hoping any deity out there would hear me.

"We have done no wrong to anyone, please just give us a chance" I said in pain as I cried my eyes out.
