Who Are You?

Chapter 27

Liam's POV

I gasp when she says it. Three little words that have easily changed my life.

"Y-you do? You love me?" I ask completely baffled.

She nods, "I do. I love you so much, and I've been denying myself that confession for a while, but I do. I love you."

I smile the widest smile I've ever smiled and lean in to kiss her. I pour every emotion I'm feeling into that kiss, and I get right back from her.

I cup her cheeks, and I feel tears stream down her face.

"What's wrong?" I ask, wiping her tears with my thumbs.

"I-I've never loved anyone before. I'm scared Liam," she looks at me.

Her blue eyes pierce mine so easily and I just want to comfort her and wipe away all her fear.

"Don't be scared babe! There's no need to be scared. I would never intentionally hurt you, and I feel the same way you do. There's no reason to be afraid. Love is powerful, but if it's true, it's amazing."

She looks back up at me, "Have you ever been in love?"

I shake my head, "Not before this I haven't. But I used to see love in my mom's eyes when she looked at my dad, but that faded when he became so controlling of her. I still believe she loves him, I mean she wouldn't stay with him if she didn't," I explain, "But I think she's a different person now."

"I'm scared, Liam. I don't wanna be a different person," she says.

I take her into my arms and rock her back and forth.

"It's ok, Maddie. If you love me, I promise to always return that to you and protect you. Do you trust me?" I ask her, pulling back to look at her.

She takes a deep breath before nodding.

"I do. I do trust you. With everything I've got," she says.

She then pushes her lips against mine. The kiss lasts a few minutes before we pull apart to catch our breath.

"I'm so glad you do. I'll never purposely betray your trust," I say to her.

"Good, because that's all anyone has ever done to me," she says.

I want to wash away her pain. She doesn't deserve it.

I want to love her right.
