"Did you just call her Mom?" Lydia whimpered, as all the fire raging through her body turned to ice
"Wait, I know you guys from somewhere" The girl thought hard for a minute, "The Boneyard- OBX"
"How could you?" Lydia turned back toward Katrina
"Honey, neither of you were ever supposed to find out" Katrina tried to soothe
"Honestly I'm not surprised that Katrina birthed out a fucking hateful bitch like you" Lydia spat at Heather, realizing just how angry she was
"What? How do you-" Katrina's mother tried to ask
"Oh she didn't tell you when she swooped into the OBX a couple years ago? She didn't mention when she fucked not only the guy she knew I was dating but also my best friend and then proceeded to verbally threaten me before blocking me?" Lydia raged
"Mom, I don't know what she's talking about" Heather faked confusion
"Lydia, I don't know who you're mistaking her to be, but I can assure you she's never been to the Outer Banks" Katrina pursed her lips
"Taking her side over mine? Huh. I shouldn't even be surprised right? You let me live with the fact that I THOUGHT I WAS THE REASON YOU DIED" Lydia screamed, lunging at Katrina again, having to be held back by both JJ and John B
"It's not like that, calm down and I'll explain" Katrina sighed
"No, you have no right to stand in front of me and make excuses for yourself. You disgust me. You left me with an abuser and came and lived a fucking kook life in a whole other country not once thinking 'hm, what about that other daughter I had, what was her name, Leah- no lydia'" Lydia spat, still trying to wiggle out of the boy's grasp
"There wasn't a day that went by where I didn't think about you. It was better this way" Katrina didn't know whether or not she was trying to convince her daughter or herself
"Oh just like it was better that I didn't know I had a sister? You know, Heather, maybe we could've been friends if you had just kept your legs shut. No, you know, I could even forgive that, we've all made mistakes. But then you did it to a second person in my life and then used it to mess with me" Lydia growled
"Lydia Rose Sherman" Katrina said firmly
Ignoring her mother she chuckled, "I don't know who the hell you were with when Katrina was actually pretending to be my mother but you have no fucking clue about the things I've been through and if you ever even look at me again, I will not hesitate to drown you in the ocean"
"Enough. You will respect me and my daughter while you are in my house" Katrina said firmly
"No, no, you know what" Lydia stopped fighting their grip, "I'd rather drown trying to sail back to the Outer Banks before I spend another second in this house with you two" And she shoved JJ and John B off of her, probably a little harder than she meant to, and walked out the door.
The pogues were shocked, they had never seen Lydia lash out at someone like that. They honestly didn't even realize that she was capable of saying some of the things she said.
"I'm gonna go first, then you guys can come out" JJ turned towards the group, knowing he needed to talk to her alone, first
Lydia leaned against the railing of the dock, her hands clenched so tight that her knuckles were white. Her nails were cutting into her palms but she didn't even notice. But JJ did, he noticed almost everything about her, he knew her, or so he thought. He wasn't expecting her to flinch away from his touch
"JJ don't" Lydia replied blankly
"I need you to talk to me, Lyds" JJ begged
"I can't do this" Lydia whispered
"What are you talking about? You can do this, remember what you said on the boat, as long as we have each other, we can do anything" JJ hoped she'd listen to her own advice
"No, JJ, I can't do this,not right now at least" Lydia gestured between the two as she took a big step away from JJ
"What?" JJ's face crumbled, that was the last thing he was expecting to hear, "What are you talking about? What are you saying?"
"JJ, I love you more than anything else in this world, including myself. But I can't be the person you need me to be. You make me a good person JJ and right now I can't be a good person. Not when it comes to them." Lydia fought back the tears that so desperately wanted to roll down her face, "I can't have you worrying about me or doing stupid things to protect me"
"No, you do realize that regardless, I'll worry about you and protect you. So don't do this, I know you don't want to do this. Let's just go talk, I'll go anywhere with you" JJ begged, ignoring the tears rolling down his own face
"That's the problem JJ! Every single time that I have been on the edge of a cliff, you have pulled me back. But I'm tired of getting pulled back, I'm going over the cliff and I will not take any of you with me, you understand? I'm sorry but you have to go back inside, talk to the pogues, let them in" Lydia lashed out
"No I don't accept this, no. I refuse to let you self-destruct. You've never given up on me and I will be damn sure to do the same" JJ responded
"We're done, JJ. Maybe one day I'll pull myself back and I promise that if I do, I'll find you." And with those words, Lydia got on the boat and drove it away to god knows where
JJ tried to wipe away all the tears that continued coming, but he couldn't. His best friend, his rock, his soulmate, his entire life, just willingly walked away from him.
"JJ? Where the hell is Lydia?" Kie called from down the dock
"I don't know" He said softly, trying to mask his pain
"What do you mean you don't know? She didn't tell you?" John B asked as the pogues finally reached the end of the dock
"She was too busy dumping me" JJ shrugged, keeping his eyes trained on the ground
"Okay, this is a joke right? What did Lydia just take the boat around the bay?" Sarah asked
JJ just looked up and the pogues realized this wasn't a joke
