"You be a good boy, you hear me?" Lydia stood up from her crouched position next to Milo, "Seriously Ms. Lana, we can't thank you enough"

The pogues knew they couldn't bring Milo along on their journey, so they reached out to the one person they felt like they could kinda trust. All Ms. Lana knew was that JJ and Lydia were going to spend the summer on the mainland, to escape their fathers. Lydia was honestly surprised that Ms. Lana agreed to watch Milo "She probably feels bad about not telling John B that his dad was dead sooner" she thought

"He's a good boy, I'll take good care of him. Please be safe, both of you" Ms. Lana gestured between JJ and Lydia

"We will, and remember just like we talked about, you have no idea where we are and the dog was dropped on your doorstep" Lydia recounted the plan, one final time

An hour later, they were standing on the deck at the Chateau. They had loaded up the boat with supplies, more as a precaution than anything else and they were finally getting ready to set sail

"Before we go, promise me that whatever happens, no matter who or what we find, that we'll always do it together- pogue style" Lydia said to her friends as they were doing their final checks

The three other teens nodded, and came in for a group hug before resuming their positions. JJ was driving, Lydia beside him and Pope and Kie were hidden until they could get far enough away from shore that no one could spot the teens. After getting about 15 miles offshore, Kie and Pope were finally able to stretch out and enjoy the ride.

When they arrived at the buoy, there were no other boats in sight.

"Shit" JJ threw his hat down at on the deck

"Hold on, the letter gave no specifics about when this Dan guy was supposed to show up" Kie tried to reason

"We can't just sit in the middle of the ocean and wait around for something we don't know is even coming" JJ raised his voice

Lydia stepped in front of him, placing her palms on his chest, "Hey, look at me. Take a deep breath, okay?"

JJ nodded, backing down slightly, causing Lydia to turn back towards the group, "I agree that we can't just sit out here for a long period of time, BUT, I think we owe it to ourselves and to John B, to wait it out, at least until we're out of food and water" She was honestly nervous for her friends reactions, maybe this wasn't the right choice

Surprisingly, the group agreed and they set up shop by tying the boat to the buoy and dropping their anchor.

Later that night, Lydia and JJ were cuddled up on one end of the boat, Pope and Kie on the other. They were looking the stars, just enjoying the company of one another

"I love you" Lydia whispered, feeling like she wanted to remind him

"I love you and only you, Lydia" JJ replied, stroking her hair softly

"Can you believe that we're going to be seniors?" Lydia changed the conversation slightly

"Can you believe we even survived long enough to make it to senior year?" JJ chuckled, thinking back on all the crazy things that they've done that could have killed them

"What's gonna happen after highschool J?" She asked

"I guess that depends where you're going" JJ shrugged

"You'd come with me, even if I left OBX?" She propped herself up on her elbows, looking curiously at the boy

"Lydia I'd follow you to the ends of the earth. I don't ever plan on spending another minute without you" He said so matter-of-factly that it seemed like he had given this a lot of thought
