Premise: JJ and his dad fight (no specific time point, just some time before Lydia and JJ are officially a couple)

Song: SWEET by BROCKHAMPTON

JJ frowned as the shack he called home, came into view. He had been gone a couple days, nothing too unusual. But he was hoping his dad wouldn't be home when he stopped by to get more clothes.

He took a deep breath, pushing open the screen door, his father sitting smugly on the couch.

"Where the hell have you been?" Luke slurred

"Not like you care" JJ let slip, mentally cursing himself for being so stupid

"You know what? You're right, I don't. Probably slumming around with Jacob's kid, what's her name? Oh, Lydia. You know she's definitely getting hotter with age" Luke smirked, he knew full well how protective JJ was of his friends

"What did you say?" JJ rushed over towards his dad, towering above his still sitting figure

Luke quickly stood up, not enjoying feeling inferior, "Ohh, I've hit a soft spot. You're into that pogue whore?"

JJ didn't even realize that his fist had met his dad's face until it had already happened. Luke smirked, wiping the blood off his lips before tackling JJ. As they rolled around on the floor, it was obvious that Luke was getting in way more hits than JJ. He took blow after blow to the face, knowing there was nothing stopping Luke once he had started. Luke paused for a minute, JJ taking the opportunity to wiggle out from under him. Unfortunately, Luke reacted a little bit quicker, grabbing the boy's ankle before he could get away.

"Oh, I'm not finished yet" Luke said, as he pulled JJ back onto the ground. The beating carried on for another 10 or so minutes before Luke tired himself out and went in search for another beer

JJ wasted no time in bolting out of his house, heading back towards John B's. He knew that the pogues had plans to surf and that he was supposed to be joining them but he couldn't show up looking like he did. So he quickly made his way to the chateau, not even noticing Lydia sitting in the living room

"JJ what-" Lydia stammered, standing up quickly

"Jesus Christ, Lydia, you scared the shit out of me. Aren't you supposed to be surfing?" JJ asked, keeping his back to the girl

"Well I figured I'd hang here and we'd go over together. JJ look at me" Lydia demanded, knowing he had just been at his house

JJ slowly turned around to meet her gaze. She attempted to keep the horrified expression off of her face, "JJ, I thought he wasn't supposed to be home"

"He wasn't supposed to be. But you know him" JJ shrugged

"Come on" Lydia motioned for him to follow her into the bathroom

He assumed his usual spot on the counter, while Lydia gathered everything she needed. She poured some peroxide on a cotton ball, and moved to stand between his legs

"You know the drill, it'll sting" Lydia stated, earning a nod from JJ

He winced slightly, as she disinfected the little cuts he had on his face, "He got you good, J. What happened?" Lydia's eyebrows knitted in confusion

"You know, I said something I shouldn't have and he said something to set me off and the rest is history" JJ sighed

"You can't be reckless like that, J. He could kill you" Lydia cooed, ignoring her own feelings about her home life

"I know, I know. You just didn't hear him" JJ muttered

"What did he say that has you so riled up?" Lydia asked, putting away the supplies

"He just said some stuff about you and-" JJ was quickly cut off

"This is all my fault" Lydia shook her head, walking out of the bathroom

JJ's mouth dropped open before he scrambled to follow her, "Wait, what? How-"

Lydia whipped her head around, stopping dead in her tracks, "You fought with your dad because of something he said about me. I'd classify that as my fault"

"Lydia, you know he doesn't need an excuse to fight with me." JJ replied

"But the whole point was that you went after him, am I wrong?" Lydia quizzed

"Well no-"

"Exactly, so it's fine. I'll handle my feelings on it" Lydia cut him off swiftly

"No, it's not fine. Even if I hadn't gone after him, he would've eventually gone after me, you know how it goes" JJ referenced her own issues with her dad

"Yeah" Lydia chuckled, "I guess we both have daddy issues"
