Chapter 12

The next day Alex and Aiden stayed home. While Alex went on a cleaning mission Aiden decided it was the day he made as much mess as possible. Around lunch time Jessica bought over Jacob for a play date and to see how Aiden was doing.

"So, have you talked to Emilia yet?" Jessica asked as she helped clean up the mess at lunch that their boys seemed to make.

"Yeah. She spent the day with us and we are going to give a relationship a go." Jessica smiled hoping one day she could feel the same love as Alex.

"So how have you a Jacob been?" Alex tried to get information out of Jessica about Jacob's father, but she always avoided the questions or changed the topic.

"Good. He is a handful at times, but I wouldn't ask for it any other way." Alex and Jessica finished up cleaning and they stopped when they walked into the lounge room.

"No Aiden." Alex looked around the room to see toothpaste everywhere.

"Where did you get the toothpaste?" Alex swear he put everything up high. Aiden lately has been going through the stage of making a mess of everything.

"Jacob." Jessica sighed and they both looked at their smiling children who were covered in blue toothpaste.

"I will run a bath." Alex went upstairs and started a bath while Jessica started to undress the very naughty boys. Once the boys were undressed Jessica took them both upstairs where she knew they were going to make more mess in the bathroom.

When Alex saw Jessica coming in with both the boys he turned off the water and they both placed their sons in the bubbly water. Alex sat on the edge of the tub while Jessica sat on the toilet lid.

"They are going to make a mess." Jessica said as she watched Alex wash Aiden and Jacob.

"I know, but water is easier to clean up then toothpaste." Jessica agreed and they let the boys play in the water for a bit. Jessica left Alex alone for a bit to grab Jacob's spare clothes out the car.

While she was getting Jacob's bag out the car her phone rang and she stiffened in fear when she saw who was calling her. Not knowing what to do she turned her phone off and headed back inside hoping Alex didn't pick up on how tense she was. Jessica walked back into the bathroom just in time to see Alex getting Aiden and Jacob out the bath.

"Come on boys." Alex led them like a marching band into Aiden's room where they dropped their towels and ran around the room as naked as they were the day they were born.

"Are you guys going to stay for dinner?" Alex asked as they finally got the boys dressed.

"If you don't mind." Alex shook his head and they put Aiden and Jacob down for a nap. While the boys were sleeping Alex and Jessica tackled the toothpaste mess in the lounge room.

"Jessica what is wrong." Alex finally got the balls to ask as they sat down on the couch. Jessica sighed and shook her head.

"Nothing Alex. I am handling it." Alex was weary, but didn't push her any further.

"Well if you ever need anything, don't be afraid to ask." Jessica smiled at Alex not believing how lucky she was to have him as a friend. It was people like Alex that the world needed more of. The kind, selfless, caring type. The world was dark and Jess tried to shelter her son from it as much as possible.

Alex and Jessica spent the afternoon talking about anything really and Alex invited her over when his family had the next annual family lunch. When Aiden and Jacob got up they wanted to go and play outside, but again Alex was hesitant.
