Epilogue

"Dad come on you promised you would take me surfing this weekend." Aiden pleaded as he looked at his father. Alex was sitting at his office desk trying to fill out the last of the papers to open up a new company in India.

"Just give me a second Aiden, and done. Let's go." Both the boys raced downstairs pushing and shoving each other out the way.

"You are getting old Dad." Alex huffed and crossed his arms.

"I am not old thankyou very much I am only 29." Aiden rolled his eyes and called out to Casper.

"Casper." The dog came bounding into the room jumping around like he was still a puppy.

"You get Casper in the car and I will get our boards." Alex grabbed their surfboards and put them on top of the car.

"Dad are we staying at the beach house for the weekend." Aiden asked once he as in the car with Casper sprawled out across the back seat.

"Yep, I have the weekend off and we get to spend all weekend together surfing." Aiden was excited it had been a few months since they got to spend time together.

"So what happened with that date grandma set you up with." Aiden the cheeky bugger asked.

"I should know better than go when my mother sets them up." Alex went out on a date a few weeks ago just to please his mother and let's say he won't be seeing that women again.

"I heard Uncle Damien said she had a nice rack but a bit loony in the head." Alex slapped his son on the back of the head as Aiden laughed.

"You are such a smartass. You need to stop hanging out with my brother." Alex and Aiden fell into silence as he played on his psp.

It had been 5 years since he last saw Emilia. He still loved her to this day, but was no longer in love with her. He tried dating over the years, but nothing lasted too long. Everyone he dated knew about Aiden, but none got the pleasure of meeting his boy.

He sometimes worried that Aiden didn't have a mother, but Aiden said he was fine just having a Dad.

"So Dad I have this idea for my 10 birthday party ok." Alex rolled his eyes. It was only the middle of January and Aiden was already planning his party.

"Aiden you just turned 9, 2 months ago. It's my birthday before yours." Aiden huffed as Alex pulled into the halfway point.

"Come on Casper." Aiden took Casper to the toilet while Alex filled up the car.

"Ready." Casper was running around chasing after his own tail.

"Yep." When they started driving again Aiden wondered why his father never tried to date anyone.

"Dad why don't you try and date someone new. Grandma also says you will never love another person again and I know she wasn't taking about my mother." Alex sighed as he kept driving. Over the years Aiden forgot about Emilia and as much as it hurt him, it was for the best. His separation anxiety slowly went away and by the time he was ready to go to school Aiden wa bounding out the car and into the school gates.

"There was this women once Aiden. She was the love of my life, but it just didn't work out." Aiden nodded and started asking questions being the nosey child that he was.

"Did she love you?" Aiden asked as his father quickly glanced at him.

"Yes, but I worked too much and we were too young for it to work." Aiden didn't understand love. He knew his father had been hurt by love, but he didn't understand why they wouldn't be together if they both loved each other.
