Once We Start, We Are Never Stopping

Morgan drove us in her Miata to 'The Firehouse'. The lunch rush, to the degree that this out of the way watering hole ever has any kind of rush, is over. At this time of the day, we should mostly find Sirens inside, especially on the bar side.

As we went up the front steps, Morgan looked over at the railing on the porch, obviously flashing on that out-of-control night and perhaps what might have happened here.

I tried not to think about all the resisted temptation of that night. I need to focus as I am about to face another problem that same exact event caused me: My Siren ex-girlfriend, Vera.

My former lover waited inside the building. I called ahead to let her know Morgan and I are coming. Vera Roper looks good. Her Girl-Siren standard issue, normally slightly frizzy, shoulder-length brown hair styled into smoothness.

Vera has been hitting the gym. She always complained about being fat and needing to lose weight, but I never understood that. I do not think men ever understand that. She looked good then and she does now. She is wearing tighter fitting clothes than she used to, making obvious her toned shape. A deep V cut sweater top displayed her very lightly freckled Siren standard-issue cleavage.

The male Sirens are quite frustrated with Vera because she has not succumbed to any of their songs and therefore their attempts to, in Siren terms, be able to claim her. Sex with a male Siren is still always on her terms, and that really gets up their noses. I like the idea of Vera leading them around by their fragile Siren ego's. I may be the Siren Liaison, however, I have little use for the bullshit of the male of the species.

Vera had been interested in finding out she is a Siren, or that there even is such a thing. She is glad to be with people like herself. The problem is that she also knows about the sexually interesting things called Vampires. Her former part-time lover became one of those interesting creatures. Worse, Vera witnessed what happened with Morgan and I on the porch here. She is very intrigued by the idea that I can defeat the influence of Siren Song. I look a lot less boring to her now than back in our dating days.

"Hey, Adrian." She greeted, her voice pitched lower than it normally is. Her scent read both sexual interest and frustration. The frustration most likely due to Morgan, who Vera looked at with a pinched expression. "And... Hi. Sorry. I can't remember your name."

"Morgan." I could hear a slight tone of amusement in Morgan's voice. My guess is that Vera remembers her name perfectly well and that Morgan thinks so as well.

"So, you want to see Larry?" Vera asked

"Later? Have you got a private place where we three could talk first?" I asked

Vera looked a little surprised "Ah, yeah. Sure. The office." She used a thumb to indicate a small brown door in the center of the wall behind her. I have been through the door to the left, which leads to the restaurant and of course to the right through the swinging doors that lead into the Bar. I have never been through that door.

The brown door opened into a hall, with several doors to other rooms. The first room in the hall is the office.

Vera walked around a small desk, and sat down, offering us two chairs that faced the desk. It is about what you'd expect an office in a bar and grill to look like. Small. Computer. Papers. Filing cabinets. Pictures of people with other people on a corkboard. No calendars featuring nude women so I assume male Sirens never work in here.

Vera sat, interlaced her fingers across her chest, and asked me "So, where's your wife?" Her glance at Morgan curious as to why I am out and about with her. After all, she and I nearly screwed on the porch. Jessica trusted me with Morgan?

"Jessica is traveling. We are trying to adopt a child." I answered.

Vera's regard jerked back to look at me, astonished "Really?"

"Really. We want to be parents. Can't be. Vampires have been adopting human children forever. Just because one cannot have kids does not mean you don't want them."

"Still: Big step. Kids. Wow." Vera smiled. "You always were the settle down kind though, weren't you?"

I gave back a smile. "Yes. Vampires: we have lots and lots of time. We like to settle down for years on end. Sirens don't seem to settle down. The men conquer the women, and the women are happy for a while, but soon enough you get bored and ready to move on, and they have to conquer you again. Over and over. Assuming they still want you, and not some other female. I never conquered you. I did it all wrong: Trying to be a good boyfriend, and to keep you sexually satisfied in ways I knew to try. I did not know about the 'get inside your head with the Song' part of things you need."

"You wanted to settle down well before you became a Vampire." Vera noted, then sidelong at Morgan "Still, I think it is interesting that your wife trusts you with Morgan here. Nice looking woman. Smart. Clearly your type."

Morgan injected "Yes, Jessica and I talked about that exact thing recently. She, quite correctly, trusts Adrian with me far less than she does with you. I am a family member and also on his so-called Freebie list, and Jessica put me there, so we get unlimited free carnal passes should Adrian and I so desire. It is my impression that she may wish to participate. She mentioned marriage in fact. Vampire thing: to marry in groups."

Ouch. Morgan being catty. She is being all kinds of new and different lately.

Vera did not flinch at the implied insult. She fired right back. "Well, it's not like you don't want him, because you very much do. I imagine you will be using your passes. Good thing they are unlimited because once you start fucking him, after what I saw, I seriously doubt you will ever want to stop."

Morgan smiled, also unruffled "As you now know, Vera, wanting and having are not the same thing. In this case, where Adrian, his pheromones, his bite, and that night are concerned? You have never experienced desire like that, I assure you. Without going through the experience, it cannot be understood. It is also mutual: You are correct that once Adrian and I become lovers that I will not wish to stop, nor will he. This certainly is, in fact, part of why we have not yet started."

Morgan looked at her hands in her lap and said the next part in a subdued way. She is not pulling on Vera's chain now. "Siren Song is as nothing, Vera. I went, and I mean this quite literally, insane with desire. I apologized to Jessica. More than once. Jessica understands that I will want Adrian again and again, sexually. I do and I will. At the same time, I doubt it will be in the same way as that night. That night was intense beyond endurance. When Adrian and I next have sex, it will be more, shall we say, controlled. Also, the sexual encounters will last far longer, as we will have no Vampires that need killing in the immediate future. Upon that occasion, I shall clear the entire night, and all the subsequent ones."

Despite the unusual openness being offered to Vera, Morgan is also layering it on, and I wonder why. Morgan telling Vera that she and I will have sex. No doubt: Only a question of when. Once we start, we never stop. I waited for the return volley from Vera.

Vera raised her brows, saw this conversation headed nowhere, and defused it by agreeing. "No: You're right. I haven't ever felt anything like that, and I hang out here. In a Siren bar, where sexual seduction goes down all the time. Hell, I had sex with the man you want so badly on uncountable numerous occasions over many years. Adrian did not have the common courtesy to be a Vampire at the time. Asshole."
