I wanted to try a new attitude for ben rather than the shy boy next door stereotype lol. Hopefully that shows a little bit haha. This concept was requested by @milliehatake , another reader that has been so supportive of me these past couple years. Thank you so much for reading, even through the first cringey chapters of this book. I appreciate it a lot :)

"No, no. That was all wrong! You guys look like strangers!" The stage director yelled at us.

For a little background- the long time fans of newsies asked for a recall of the show after it was removed from netflix. The original cast agreed to be in it, but only if it was spiced up a little. You know, same plot, same characters, a few new scenes. An example of one of these new scenes? How about Daveys new love interest- Sofia.

The writers looked into some fan fictions to see what the viewers wanted to see, but did not release to the public what was happening. I actually started out as an intern for one of the writers until he read something from this app "wattpad" where davey had a love interest- amazingly matching my description. From our sparatically placed freckles to the long ginger hair atop our heads, the character might as well have been written specifically for me.

Dont get me wrong, i had no problem in the world having a makeout scene with ben. No maam, ever since he walked into casting i wanted our lips to touch. Its just....awkward. We're practically perfect strangers, and its infront of tons of people. I dont know, maybe im just being insecure.

"Okay." Blurted out our manager. "I want you two, after rehearsals, to go to Petterinos. Its just down the street a little ways. Just go on a date. Become closer. Make some real chemistry, portray that on stage. Okay? Great."

"Wait- Wha?" Yeah, not exactly the response i wanted to hear from my crush.

"You heard me Fankhauser. Now, we're prepping next scene people! Lets get Andr..." his voice faded out as Ben and I walked off of the stage.

"So...Petterinos." He gulped a bit, refusing to meet my eyes with his.

"Yeah, I hear its nice."

The only response Ben gave was a light chuckle, a shake of his head as it tilted down torwards the floor.

"Oh my god, we're being directed to go out."

"Yep."

We still were simply walking next to each other, not looking or even breathing in the others direction. My heart had dropped to the pit of my stomach with his response earlier, the confused and almost insulted look on his face. That was until he spoke again.

"Well, I hope you have a nice outfit then. If we're going to go out, we're gonna go out, if ya know what I mean."

"Oh?"

"See you at 6, y/n"

I stumbled back to my small studio apartment and dug in my closet for the perfect clothes for my director-ordered date. I settled on an off the shoulder white lace dress, paired with some white oxford heels. I decided to simply pull back my hair with a with a teal scrunchie for a pop of color, considering my pale skin might as well have been the same color as the dress. When i was satisfied with my look, i headed out the door and waited for ben to arrive outside of the complex.

"Wow. You look. Wow."

I felt my cheeks becoming more pigmented with the positive reaction to my outfit. Ben pulled his arm out for mine to interlock with, and we walked over to the restaurant.

"Wow, this place is really nice Ben."

"Do you not like it? We can go somewhere else. I wont tell Alan."
