I sit on my bed, shuffling through my music. I end up playing my sisters "bad day" playlist. I feel a tear slip from my eyes, and realize just how angry I make myself. Angry that I let myself fall into self-pity, angry that I didn't seize my moment, angry that I let such an opportunity to slip through my fingers. I pick up my phone, thinking about texting one of my friends. I know that I can't, I'm supposed to be "the strong friend", I'm the one that they run to. I can't text them. The tears continue to fall down my ever saddening face.

My phone begins to buzz, he's calling again. I ignore the first few times, letting myself wallow in my emotions. He calls a few more times, and I eventually pick up.

"What do you want?" I say with a sniffle. My anger is out of control and my tears aren't slowing.

"Emma just called. You gave Ben advice on how to date another girl? You have been trying to tell him for months that you like him!" My brother wasn't necessarily the best at consolation.

"Yes! Is that all? Are you only calling to make me feel worse about myself?" I think it's safe to say I am BEYOND pissed at this point. I hung up the phone before Ryan could answer. I started my music once again, nothing like sad music when you're sad.

The phone began to buzz again. I assumed it could only be Ryan. I let it lay on the bed, as I was not in any mood to talk to him. After the 3rd ring, I finally checked the caller. Ryan would've given up by now.

It was Ben.

I dried my tears and took a few deep breaths, taking the "previously crying" sound out of my voice.

"Hey, Ben! Whats up? How'd everything go with the mystery girl?"

"I- uh- haven't actually asked her yet"

Everything about him was cute, just his voice alone was enough to make me fall in love all over again.

"Oh, well remember what I told you. Girls like a guy that isn't self-conscious but also not too cocky. And please, PLEASE, remember to make it clear. You know, flat out ask, give a date, time, place. All of that."

"Got it. Thank you y/n. You don't even understand how much this is gonna help me."

He sounded excited as he hung up the phone. I wanted so badly to be happy for him, but I couldn't. I couldn't muster up the feeling of being happy that the boy I love is asking me for advice to ask out another girl. I'm going to be okay though. I'll get over it. You can't win 'em all, and he probably just thinks of me as a sister.

A few minutes later I got another call from Ben. I guessed he was nervous or forgot to ask something, maybe just needed a recap of the tips.

"Hi, again" I followed up my greeting with a small, very fake, chuckle.

"Hey y/n. Can I ask you something?"

Oh boy. Here it was. I have to give him more advice. Don't cry, don't cry. I took a breath and prepared myself to help him further.

"Yeah. Whats wrong?"

"I want to take you out. Saturday, 6:30, (insert favorite restaurant). We'll have to be done by 9, though. I do have rehearsal after all."

"Ben, I...."

"That was all the things, right? Clear, time, place, not too cocky? Y/n, I really like you. Please, give me a shot"

"I... whoo" I had to catch my breath.

"Um yes. Of course. Yes" I was trying not to sound too desperate, and trying not to cry tears of happiness. I couldn't believe it. They were tips to ask me out.

"Thank you, y/n. I mean it. Thank you for giving me a shot. I won't let you down. Or at least I hope I don't. Ok I gotta go now"

Bens POV

I hung up the phone as fast as possible. I couldn't bare the nerves of talking to her anymore. I all but squealed after she told me yes. I've been trying to ask y/n out for months, but I didn't have the courage. My approach could have been better, but as long as I got the date, I didn't care.
