I looked at my mother with curiosity. She couldn't be more than one hundred forty-five pounds, but she moved faster. A lot faster then my uncle. Mom had been teaching me how to strike and block. She said she could see I had real skill for it. I have been emails to dad, whatever he was now he had the internet. I got two emails a day from him. I told him that when I came to see him during the winter break I wanted him to teach me more how to fight. My uncle Kevin had been teaching me but, I mostly get knocked on my ass. And that was on a good day.

"Remember lock your arms in tight." Mom said pulling my arms up. She stepped back from me. "Stick!" I swiped the sword down hard in front of me taking one foot step. "Block!" I brought the side in front of me. "Good, keep your arms tight."

"Alright time for practice." My came from the trees wiping your face. He must have been hunting.

"Do we have to?" I put my sword back in it's sheef. My uncle looked at me putting his glasses in his front pocket.

"You're making progress. And yes you have too." Progress my asshole. If you mean not getting my arm broken, then yeah that's counts.

"Seriously every time we spare, you kick my ass." Mom giggled. Ass was the only curse word I was allowed to use in front of her. My mom wasn't like most mother's. Uncle Kevin looked at me.

"Honey, it's gonna take time for you. We already know some things won't come easy." I rolled my eyes.

"Mom he's brick wall and I'm a stick. I have the strength, but not speen much coordination." Mom handed me his sword.

"You have too keep trying. I'll show you, it's not impossible." She turned to my Uncle.

"This should be fun, I've never spared with you." Uncle Kevin said to my mom. "Pretty sure my brother is gonna be annoyed but this." He was talking about dad.

"Whenever you're ready Kevin." Mom said. They both stood there looking at each other. My Uncle made the first move. My mom move in some type stance I didn't recognize. My Uncle picked up speed as he came at her but she wasn't moving. My Uncle throw punch at her blocked it. The force behind that one punch sounded. He tried again to hit her but she crossed her arms over her face blocking. She took her foot and kicked him hard in the trees. I thought she was still standing there but she wasn't. By time my Uncle landed on the ground she wasn't standing there. I heard the force behind another punch when she hit in the face. Mom got back and let him get up. When she got back he moved again this time his movements were faster. He was trying to land a strike against her but he didn't have any luck. With every heavy punch she blocked, no matter how fast he stricted. Mom's movements turned into another formation I didn't know. She moved this time punching at him, some she missed but of them landed. Her next move was fast one, if I had even blinked I would have missed it. She came in from the side a scissor kick. My Uncle landed into about five trees.

"Jesus Christ Raven, that hurt!" He got up from the ground. "I give up, your as fast as Darren lead on." He got up he was holding arm. "I think my arm might be broken."

"Well since you won't be moving it around any time soon, no more practice." Mom smiled at me.

"How did you do that? I mean you moved so fast?" Mom took her sword.

"Well for one, you have to clean your mind. Don't think about beating the person, think about defending yourself. It took a lot of training for me to get up to that speed, but it's not just about the speed." She replied. I had no idea she could move that fast. No wonder she was one of the best vampire in the police force.

"Thost stance, I've never seen them before, not in any book I've read." I've never seen anyone move the way she did.

"That's because I made them up." I looked at her. "My movements are self taught, I use to dance just like you when I was your age. They also come from my powers, even though I don't use them. It's natural for me to use that form."
